I dont think throwing muses are very well known. I personally like them alot. Also the solo albums that Kristin Hersh, and Tanya Donelly have put out are all worth a listen too. Also Tanya's band Belly she formed after Throwing muses are worth a listen too.
I love No Doubt. They're simply amazing. But Gwen Steffani's solo was garbage. :x
I also enjoy the Cranberries and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs from time-to-time.

Oh gosh I know all that as I've been listening to Kristin's bands and offshoots since they started back in the early '80s. But yeah they're not particularly well known so I just though it was nice to see you and Dhyce mention them.
Also - I just got the Egyptian newsletter and apparently and on June 18th they're playing double feature of Flash Gordon and Battle Beyond the Stars! :D

I would have included Slowdive and Sonic Youth... but like, they have a male singer too.
Yeah I was mulling upon those two as well as Versus, Small Factory and Dead Can Dance but omitted them for the same reason.

Hm, so it's okay if there's a male singer too? Well then, Sonic Youth, definitely. Kim Gordon has such a sexy voice.

aruna doesnt really front the band, but she does sing and that seems to be the requirement many are giving for fronting the band. besides, people should check this band out anyway-portal.
