I'm not terribly well-versed in politics and the like, so I'll mostly just be standing back and hearing what everyone has to say, but I'm interested to hear what everyone here thinks is the best type of government. (and I don't mean which sounds best on paper, I mean which would actually work the best, practically)

Totalitarian. Nothing bad has ever happened when someone has a dictator. That is a fact

So you think we should just have complete anarchy? Do you honestly think that would be better? People would be going around, stealing, killing, raping, doing whatever they please, because there'd be no way to stop them. Of course, if you want something, you'd have to steal it. What else would you do? If there's no government, there's no money. There's also no corporations, since the world's become a free-for-all and no one would give a damn what anyone else says, so nothing new could be made (even if they did try, you can bet some psychos would screw it up; burn the building or something, who knows). The entire world would fall apart in chaos. I'd prefer slight corruption (that isn't even that big of a deal anyway) over complete self-destruction of the entire human race any day.

Trust me we can't. The whole reason the world economy came close to collapse last year was because people on every level of society couldn't control themselves.

There's not a choice in the matter. Human nature intrinsically will not allow something like anarchy to work, unless you somehow got rid of every single person who ever did anything bad, and had nothing left but saints, but 1) that'd be impossible, and 2) you'd be wiping out almost the entire planet. The fact is, if you let people do whatever they want, they're gonna do whatever they want. They aren't gonna stay calm, controlled, and collected.

damn, i have a very limitated english so i can't answer with a fluid language (try to understand plz xD) thats the problem, mankind was affected strongly by materialism so its very hard to live without the things that we consumed everyday so if we remove the goverment anarchy would be unleashed.... it may sound very "hippie" xp but i always have the "fantasy" of live in armony with the nature, but this world never reach the balance we need to live all in a good way

yep i agree, we are so big in terms of numbers (and so small at the same time) that we can't be all saints... well, by judging how we are, out destiny is the inevitable self-destruction (inevitable is the right word?, it sounds very spanish to be in english as well XD)

It sounds like you have a pretty romanticized perception of anarchy. That's ok. Everyone who thinks anarchy is a good idea does. However, once you put aside the romanticism and fantasy, and look at the darker side of people, you'll realize it can never work, which excludes it from being considered the best. Speaking of which...anarchy can't even be considered the best form of government, since it's not a type of government; just a lack of government.

Yeah, I figure people are pretty much jerks under our current system, removing all accountability would really only make them into even bigger jerks.

There is no such thing as "the best" when it comes to forms of government. All have there downfalls.

A loosely coupled democratic republic with strict laws regarding honest and peaceful human interactions (i.e. laws against initiatory fraud or force, and threats thereof, including protection of property rights as a basic civil right) and some weighted clauses preventing a majority from violating the rights of a minority (and vice-versa), with a firm commitment to laissez-faire capitalism. It would need to be focused rather strongly on the individual.

Social republic, where the people elect leaders who in turn ACTUALLY take care of their needs. Not like that will ever happen.
