[QUOTE="mindstorm"]Whoever said I wanted a theocracy? I support the separation of church and state (in the sense that religion is not forced others but religious morals can influence political thought). :wink:smc91352

what?

are you saying they should be a part of politics or that they currently are?

I'm saying that it's not possible to stop people from letting their religion or belief system influence their morals. There is no such thing as an unbiased moral code that all people in politics should follow.

'cause everyone that opposes murder is part of a religion, right?

I get the first point , but the second one I am going to have to agree-to-disagree with you on.

[QUOTE="Skull007o_O"]thats up to the people, if we can't control by ourselves....Crypto138
There's not a choice in the matter. Human nature intrinsically will not allow something like anarchy to work, unless you somehow got rid of every single person who ever did anything bad, and had nothing left but saints, but 1) that'd be impossible, and 2) you'd be wiping out almost the entire planet. The fact is, if you let people do whatever they want, they're gonna do whatever they want. They aren't gonna stay calm, controlled, and collected.

Spare us the platitudes, please. I really dislike it when people make claims about 'human nature' with a complete lack of evidence to back up their assertions, or any concrete knowledge on the subject. I presume that you believe in human nature as a state of greed and self-interest, and this (if we assume these connotations to be true) is precisely the reason why certain strands of anarchism work. The arguments for statism are weak at best, not to mention completely unjust. You must be deluded if you think that self-organisation is impossible, or that society needs the coercion of the state to stop us from eating each other.

I suggest that you read about the differents kinds of anarchism, ranging from market-anarchism to anarcho-communism before you make such all-encompassing, unsubstantiated generalisations about whether 'anarchism' can work or not because the two wings of anarchism pertain to totally different methods of government and organisation. Once you've done this, I think that you should consider historical examples, such as the Paris commune, CNT/POUM Barcelona, or even tribal societies (for anarcho-communes), and the application of laissez-faire capitalism within various countries (for market-anarchism) before you spread more of these misguided, banal diatribes on the internet. Read up on such theorists as Mikhail Bakunin in regards to the former, and economists such as Milton Friedman in regards to the latter.

If a topic arose concerning quantum physics or biochemistry then I'd keep my mouth shut, for the simple reason that I know nothing about it. I wish more people would follow this example.

Not at all. A nonreligious person can be an extremely moral person. I'm just not certain there is a true intellectual foundation for said morality outside of the existence of God. ...but that's a debate for another topic.

I'ld replace all the politicians with experts in their field. Then have an elected house to control them and make the compromises, however none of them would be allowed to advertise, canvas or PR, all they'd be allowed is to fill out a standardised from showing all their policies and their budget.

Not Republican!! biggest_loser

I sure hope you're not confusing a form of government with a political party.

Because if you are.......wow.

A democratic republic has proven to be the best. It took less than 200 years to build the greatest nation the world has ever seen using that system. It has its flaws, but having freedom and responsibility as the basis works best. It could be better with term limits for all members of government, which would force the old feeble minded ones out of office where they can do no harm. Putting time limits on the power lent to the politicians means less time for them to become corrupt.

Those of you saying totalitarianism or socialism, I certainly hoping you're joking. Otherwise, it says something sad about the current state of our education system.

You know the electricity you used to write that post? Guess who provided it for you.

Anyway, I can't really decide which one is the best, though representative democracy has seemed to work best practically in the past couple hundred years.

Any form where all the people are educated to a high degree, and are cared for. Preferably in a society where people can leave religion in the church or at home, and not bring it with them into work while they are politicians.

If resources are infinite, than socialism.. If resources arn't than a mixed government with capitalist foundation and some socialist policies.. Its what the United States is, what the majority of Europe is.. And it works for the most part.

Oh, also, any form of government where you dont need $$$ in order to run an effective campaign to allow people to know who you are and what you're about, if its a system where voting takes place.

Seriously, its mostly rich $hit-heads we have in office right now, who get political donations from companies who want a say in government for their own benifit.

Socialism. Even though it has failed in every major implementation, next time will work! We just need to keep trying until it does, so just ignore the past.

Ideally: a form of communism governed by a wholly selfless dictator. In actuality though, the best is probably a democratic state with a fair amount of socialist policies.

The problem lies not only in how much abuse you can make, but how many decisions can be ill made. For example in democracy opinion-itis rules.Rulers are chosen through popularity contests (most popular=most capable ??? LOL). Discussion in congress is not made by experts in the subject but by politics. When we vote the vote of an illiterate 19 year drug addict is the same as the vote of a nobel prize winer in science (would you sat that their point of view should be equally balanced). And on the other hand oligarquies and dictatorships tend to have a lot of opression. Any system bad administrated leads directly to problems.

We should elect cows into office, and everytime a cow's term is up (or they are removed because of a scadal) a select group of government workers eat said cow in a Satanic ritual. This will please Satan and he will make sure our country grows strong.

Well in the past i would have said democracy but, i now know what goes wrong with it.
An educated or aware democracy might work, but You can't make the people smart.

Frankly i don't think there is a decent form of government or economic system.
I wouldn't know the best, they all pretty much suck equally.

I'm not terribly well-versed in politics and the like, so I'll mostly just be standing back and hearing what everyone has to say, but I'm interested to hear what everyone here thinks is the best type of government. (and I don't mean which sounds best on paper, I mean which would actually work the best, practically)
