Best gun?

What's with all the gun threads.

I'm so tired of seeing topics like these. If you're asking personal preference, that's a different story, but there is no "best gun." I'd be willing to bet you've probably never even fired an M4. SilentFireX

Lol, I have done a fair bit of travelling.

Most of you guys are naming fire arms that are unrealistic in civilian hands, and I doubt have much fire arm experience or you would know this.

Anyway it depends on what you want, but I would say for home defense nothing is better than the Mossberg 500. It's farily light for a shotgun and it's easy to maintain and shoot, hell it's so accurate you don't even really need to aim! Just point the gun in the direction where you hear the noise of the intruder and just fire and all that's going to be left of him are his shoes lol....

It's not for everyone. I had a friend who bought a bunch of guns, was really into gun magazines, and really wanted to take a concealed weapons course. He kept talking about how he wanted to buy all of these exotic guns and big calibers. The thing is, he had never actually fired a gun in his life before. He fired one shot during the concealed weapons course and looked absolutely terrifed. He barely spoke another word after that during the course. After that he never came to the range with me and another friend to shoot the guns he bought. Checked in with him a few months later and he had sold all of his guns.

Indeed, it's important to actually fire the gun yourself to see if you like the feel. And different guns have different types oftriggers (single action, double action, single-double hybrid ect...) so you can't really claim it's the "best" gun without knowing these things and what you prefer.

Kinda like how I prefer long guns over handguns but I prefer auto's over revolvers, just a prefrence. But you need to have some knowledge of the fire arm, other wise that's how accidents happen. And gun accidents are nasty....

I'll take that as a "bang". @ peter, obviously.

Any sort of pump action shotgun. If someone breaks into your home and they hear that unmistakable click-click of you chambering a round, it means the confrontation may not be necessary at all.

A stupid question about the "Best gun" when first of all there is no best gun and its been asked by someone who has never fired a weapon and says its the M4A1.

I on the other hand has fired a weapon and from my experience in the limited amounts of weapons i have fired i'll say the M1911 for its power and accuracy if you know how to use it.

I would say there are a few that can be argued for the "best gun". You obviously have the AKM and AR-15 platforms, but you have to realize we pretty much made the best guns ever during WWII. Everything since has been revisions of those.

I would argue that some of the best rifles (not just guns) ever made would be the Lee Enfield No.4, the Kar-98, Japanese Arisaka, the Mosin Nagant 91/30, Springfield 1903, SVT-40, and the M1 Garand. Let's also not forget the first real assault rifle the STG-44.

We also have the best machine gun ever made which is hands down the Browning .50 Cal. Though it's not really pratical for infantry use so I would say the best LMG would be either the MG34 or the Browning .30 cal. The MG42 falls between an LMG and a HMG, but it's worth noting that it kicked serious ass.

Then you have pistols, and there are just tons that can be named the best. I would just have to say one of the better ones is the 1911.

You can't just label "best gun" as all sorts of different guns are used for different things. The M4A1 sounds like you've just played a lot of video games.

Ok everyone the reason I like the m4a1 is because I saw it on several documentries/movies like the hurt locker. If you have a problem with that choice, my new favourite is the spyder vector paintball gun, pretty sure i've shot that.:roll:

As for guns, I tend to prefer alot of the H&K weapons, they are really well built.

but as for handguns: the 1911a2 (various manufactors: it is really well built, and has stood the time better then most other weapons, the army over here, still wnt them despite they are pretty much phased out).

H&K USP .45 (altho tactical is the one I like the most, Ive only ever had my hand on the compact, and it felt nice, to hold , was almost as durable as the m1911, and over here it has replaced it usually the 9mm version but the .45 is here, which is odd all things considered

I really like the FN Five-seven, altho Ive never held one, but it is really light, really durable, and fairly streamlined, with very few things that can be caught in cloth and such. (police nor militery use them over here).

In rifles? Well, I like the HK G3, I liked it far more then the m16 and m4 like weapons we have now, they feel like toy guns, and most soldiers complained alot due to its lack of power, modern versions of both of those are however far more durable and less frickle then they were up till the 80's Still I liked the weight, and feel of the G3, and I like that it would not break nomatter how much it went through

Ive once playied around with the old Mp5, they are pretty much going to be phased out, but it felt nice, and I understand why the police here really like it.

As for shotguns, ive never really seen or used a shotgun, since the army here does not use shotguns (unless the soldier buys one themselves) But I really apriciate what the SPAS 12 did, despite how much on that shotgun was semi illigal, and it was heavy and complex in its mechanics, it was however really hard to break despite its parts, and looked really mean (which is a really good thing for a weapon to do)

Overall however as I stated, I general like the weapons H&K makes, altho I nolonger work with weapons, they just had an incredible craftmanship, and really many things they thought up to ease the comfort for its users. One odd thing tho, H&K weapons often require a fairly big hand.

Oooooh... if we're going fictional here, I put in a vote for the Zatgun from Stargate, the Phaser, and the lightning sniper rifle from UT
