Equilibrium - Mana, linked is just a sample of this 15-minute long epic saga of a song. I don't even listen to heavy metal, but I just discovered this recently and my ears simply melted. Don't think words can do it justice, just... listen!

The lack of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest in this list of overused metal bands makes me sad.if you're thiking thats the best heavy metal song ever i recommend some pantera for starters and then go on to some metallica and sabbath.

Well, it is :?Sounds like European dance to me with some heavy riffs thrown in for good measure.
Holy Wars by Megadeth.
Or something by Iron Maiden.Or Strapping Young Lad.
Or maybe even Tankard.I'll go with Holy Wars for now.
two songs that are the best to me are Hangar 18 by Megadeth. That song made me realize how good metal is. Also Ensiferum's Heathen Throne is so epic and so good, I listen to it at least 3 or 4 times a day.

Its folk metal...its called a subgenre of Heavy Metal. In my day, no one would call that heavy metal. I stand by my opinion, it's too electronic sounding.

Its folk metal, really cheesy folk metalI like " gunshot to the head of trepidation" by trivium
sorry i misread the topic trivium isnt heavy metal. but they are good though
I'll go with Orgasmatron… probably the Motorhead original rather than the Sepultura version. Just an old fave of mine.

Well, welcome to 2010. Music in general has come a long way since then.Technical death ftw! 8) Screw Portal though. :PPretty much anything by Gorguts/Deathspell Omega/Portal/Ulcerate. Experimental ftw:).
St_JimmyX
[QUOTE="St_JimmyX"]Technical death ftw! 8) Screw Portal though. :PYeah, I cannot understand what's so special about Portal. Their music is very annoying to me. I think my favorite tech death is Origin, Theory in Practice and Necrophagist.Pretty much anything by Gorguts/Deathspell Omega/Portal/Ulcerate. Experimental ftw:).

I think my favorite tech death is Origin, Theory in Practice and Necrophagist. Portal are just boring. They augment their traditional sound with bizarre effects and production techniques, and it doesn't really strike me as convincing. Impetuous Ritual is a much more exciting version of Portal (same band members and everything), although even then I'm putting a lot of stress on the word "exciting." Origin is good. They're pretty traditional and aggressive, but also solid. They're a fun listen. I'm not a big fan of newer Necrophagist, and I never really gave Theory In Practice a serious chance. You might like Psycroptic if you like Origin and Necrophagist. They've got a unique styIe that remains fresh from album to album. I love Ulcerate though, probably my favorite band of the last few years. I got Everything Is Fire on release and was hooked. Of Fracture And Failure is great too. Gorguts, Mithras, Mitochondrion, Sickening Horror...the list of unorthodox death metal goes on and on, and I love it all. Same with the black metal like Deathspell Omega, Glorior Belli, Corpus Christii, and pretty much the whole french BM scene.Pretty much anything by Gorguts/Deathspell Omega/Portal/Ulcerate. Experimental ftw:).

So listen to something else. Metal is a diverse genre for a reason.[QUOTE="St_JimmyX"]Technical death ftw! 8) Screw Portal though. :P Portal is awesomePretty much anything by Gorguts/Deathspell Omega/Portal/Ulcerate. Experimental ftw:).

Well, I don't listen to this deathcore stuff because it's constantly generic.. I'd rather listen to real death metal.[QUOTE="MasterC5"][QUOTE="Assassin1349"] I think the only listenable deathcore band is All Shall Perish. Their solos are tasty. Assassin1349

Clients, Fused Together in Revolving Doors, and Fed Through the Teeth Machine are excellent albums.
