ok OT. i just ate a can of oranges. about halfway through the can i realize the "expiration" date listed june 2009. now there is nothing wrong with the flavor of the oranges, and cmon....they were in a can so im sure they are fine. but my question is, what is the longest past an expiration date you have eaten a food. (i appologize for my poor sentence structure today btw.)

for me this past summer i ate from a box of count chocula cereal that had been sitting in my aunts cabinet since before the war in iraq started.

They sell oranges in a can? I'm not sure if anyone will ever drink it, but we have a can of V8 that expired back in 2004.

This is news to me. And the worse I've probably done is eat/drink a slice of bread/milk a day or two over the expiry. I tend to check expiry dates.

Well, no one drank it. It is still sitting on the shelf. You can't throw a way a whole can of juice can you?

When I was about 9 I accidentally drank some milk that was around a month expired. . .it took me nearly 10-years before I touched the stuff again.

I ate a cheese-shredding the other day when my mom was making pita-bread-pizzas. Shortly after she proclaimed, "I don't like the smell of this cheese" and threw it all into the garburator.

wth mom?!

I ate a bag of Haribo gummy bears last week that was extremely old, so old that the bag was pretty much unreadable except for the bear's eyes on the front and a bit of the gold on the bag, they were behind a box of apple jacks that expired in 2003 so I can only assume they are older than that. Surprisingly the gummy bears were fantastic and the apple jacks were just tasteless and stale, but I am semi-addicted to gummy bears so that could of made them taste better.

There's some soup from '96, in my grandma's food pantry. Tried to eat it and it still tasted fine so I'd imagine canned goods don't expire so easily lol :P

They might have changed it a bit. Lately, everytime I chew a piece for a while, it dissolves. They used to last a lot longer.

This is a horrible memory to bring up but... A long time ago there was a pint of milk hidden in the back of my fridge I had just come inside from biking and was thirsty so I quickly sought out my favorite beverage in the fridge, drank a sip a threw it up right on the spot in the kitchen. That milk was from god damn 1997 this was around 2001 I think when I drank it. Only thing that rivals that horrific memory was when I was peeling potatoes and accidentally "peeled" off my thumbnail.

Family of 5, at the time all 3 of us kids were young so my mom was already too busy to notice a random pint in the fridge. We probably assumed it was for someones lunch. My family is also notorious for having expired stuff in the fridge, I have no clue how, I eat like a horse and routinely clean out the fridge.

My mum was making some food for my dad and she gave him some beetroot as a side dish. I looked at the cover and noticed it was the cover of a shop that closed years ago. The expirary date was 2003 or 2004, couldn't believe it! This was in about 2009.

LMAO same thing happen to me only I must have lost tolerance to milk at that time because every time I drank regular milk from that point on, I would vomit it all back up....XD

It wasn't until recently that my stomach was able to hold white milk again...

Anything that's in a can is fine, regardless of the expiration date. If the can has a very noticeable dent in it, then I'd probably avoid eating whatever is in it.

Canned goods will always be fine. There's no way for air or light to get inside of the can. :P Though it's best to keep canned goods stored in a cool area.

I got really bad food poisoning once from a salad. I will not eat or drink anything that is 1 day or more past it's expiration date. It was no fun being so sick I thought I was going to die. I am VERY careful now. If it expired yesterday, I am tossing it in the trash.
