By that I mean the vampire in a movie that you thought was the best or most interesting. Since I am writing my vampire story I am watching more and more vampire films to get some ideas and inspiration. These are my favorites overall though:D

1. Bill Paxton as Severen in Near Dark- Bill Paxton is awesome beyond words. His portrayal of Severen as as a brutal and savage man who kills people for pleasure not because he has to. The scene in the Bar where he slices the bartenders throat is both creepy and darkly funny at the same time. This was one of the first vampires I saw in a movie, so he is one of my favorites by far.

2. Max Schreck as Graf Orlok in Nosferatu- The one and only Nosferatu. This guy is creepy as hell, he doesnt even need to talk to be scary. His long fingers, bald head and evil eyes burn a hole in your soul. He makes babies cry just by looking at them.

3. Lina Leandersson as Eli in Let the right one in- One of the more sympathetic and tragic vampires. Eli is a 12 year old vampire girl, what makes her more interesting than most is her innocent nature and need to be loved. she even cries after killing a man. What I find interesting is that the girl who plays Eli has never acted before, she was only 10 or 11 I think when this film was shot.

4. Willem Dafoe as Max Schreck in Shadow of the vampire- Willem Dafoe is a very underrated actor, his dark and even comedic version of Max Schreck is eerily similar to the original.

5. Gary Oldman as Dracula in Bram Stoker's Dracula- Though the film is filled with bad acting and fake accents, Gary Oldman's creepy and occasionally sad portrayal of Dracula is one of the best. I don't usually like Dracula, I find him to be dated and over romantisized, but Gary Oldman shows that Dracula can still be interesting.

6. Danny Huston as Marlow in 30 days of night- Though the film is very flawed, I like it because it gets rid of all of the romantic crap that has plagued vampire movies and stories for years. Danny Huston is scary, he actually scared me at times with his weird eyes, odd way of talking, and completely ruthless and brutal nature. Danny Huston is another very underrated actor, he was also great in The Proposition as Charlie Burns.

7. John Amplas as Martin Madahas in Martin- Is this guy really a vampire? Well he is kinda, well not really. He is a man who thinks he is a vampire, sunlight only irritates him, garlic and crosses do nothing. But his his way of getting blood, but injecting someone, usually women who he strips naked and almost seems to rape for some reason, is both creepy and a welcome change from the usual formula.

8. That one nude chick in Lifeforce- A sci fi vampire film with a mostly nude vampire girl directed by Tobe Hooper. Must be seen to be believed.

9. Anne Parillaud as Marie in Innocent Blood- The one and only comedic vampire gangster film. Marie is a vampire with a conscience who restricts her feeding to the scum she hates, gangsters and bad people in general. This is one of the best and most overlooked John Landis films, Anne Parillaud is quite the vampire.

10. Wesley Snipes as Blade in Blade 1 and Blade 2- Forget Blade trinity, that sucked. Blade 1 and 2 though show that Wesley Snipes is as cool and badass as ever.

I know I have probably done a vampire topic of two before, but since I am activeily looking for new and interesting vampire films that might give me some inspiration for my vampire story you will have to forgive the apparent vampire obsession. Also this is not about the best vampire films, the film can be bad but have a good vampire or two in it.

You're first two choices were the first ones that popped into my head; while not that interesting, the cultural influence of Bela Lugosi's performance in Dracula is certainly pretty huge too.

Come to think of it, Max Schreck did look a lot more terrifying than Lugosi. I guess its mainly the film quality they used back then that made his movements so strange and creepy.

I realy liked Rudolf Martin in The Dark Prince. It was a made for television movie...yeah, yeah, I know he was in Buffy the Vampire series as well, but I still liked him in The Dark Prince. I thought he did a good job. Gary Oldman did a good job in Bram Stoker's Dracula as well...but of course. I have yet to see Nesferati, but I like Herzog's films, so I should really see it.

I didn't like Oldman's Dracula. Mainly because the book wasn't a love story, so yeh. >.> It's irritating to see the original be butchered into a love story like that. :x And I can't say I have a favourite. I generally dislike and avoid vampire movies.

Rent Near Dark, heck maybe even buy it. It is a true classic, the only downside is the cheesy ending. It has two of the cast members from Aliens, the guy who plays Bishop and the girl who plays Vasquez both star in it. They are both great too.

Yeah, those weird, pencil-like fingers looked remarkably eerie.

Oh man, it still gives me the chills. Its amazing how effective they made that image with only 1920s special effects to work with.

I notice that many people who dont like vampire films tend to like Let the right one in alot, I think its the relationship between Oskar and Eli and the sweetness behind it that gets them. I saw many people smiling at the scenes they had together like the bed scene, the scenes outside on the jungle gym with the rubix cube, and when Oskar goes into her apartment for the first time. I even heard one guy yell HELL YEAH during the pool scene at the end. My parents loved it and they both hate vampires in general. I hope to see Lina Leandersson in more films, even though her voice was dubbed she still showed a great ability to act and show emotions with her face and eyes alone. The kid who played Oskar was good too.

You should see the remake of Nosferatu that Werner Herzog did in the 70s. Shadow of the vampire is also great if you really liked Nosferatu.

If it doesn't have the jerkiness and sped-up movements of the original, it won't do anything for me. The image was terrifying but the way Schreck moved really drove the horror to the point that it would keep me up at night.

There is a classic underrated vampire film that I believe is just as good and eerie as Nosferatu. The film is called Vampyr and it came out in 1932. It is only about 75 minutes long, but it is one of the creepiest and weirdest vampire films ever made. For those of you who like vampire films I highly recommend you see vampyr, no vampire fan can call himself a fan without seeing Vampyr. Might be kinda hard to find though, I got it from a local video store.

I still think you would like Shadow of the vampire and the Nosferatu remake. Shadow of the vampire is more of a dark comedy but it is still really good. The Nosferatu remake is really good too, it stars the great Klaus Klinski.

Meh, I doubt either of those will be even close to scary when compared to the original Nosferatu.

Still, I'll try to see them when I have the chance.

Glad someone mentioned Martin, that is a classic. I think it is one of George Romero's best films by far, better than any of the dead films. Shame not many people know it.

On a side note: Since the original Nosferatu is old enough to be public domain, you can see the full movie here . I just got to a part where he's walking through a slim doorway and oh dear lord did that ever creep the living **** out of me! Schreck has to be the thinnest actor I've seen from old movies.

Sounds a lot like the "street gangs vs. vampires" subplot that run for a couple years on the TV show Angel

I read somewhere that nosferatu is his only film that is available, that is why he is such a legend. People only know him as Nosferatu, maybe he is a vampire in real life:o

Schrek as Nosferatu was easily the most terrifying vampire of all time. I suggest you watch a clip of him on Youtube, theres something chilling about the way the chaarcter moved around.

Willem Dafoe is probably one of the most underrated actors around. I dont remember the vampie movie he was in but its good.

I also liked the vampires in the Underworld series.

Willem Dafoe's vampire film is called Shadow of the vampire.

A top 10 list without Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee fails. My pick is Max Schreck's Count Orlok for sure though.

Bela Lugosi was very influencial, that cannot be denied. I think his version of dracula is one of the more dated ones. Classic and a good film, but it has aged alot worse than Nosferatur and Vampyr have.
