... But really just your favorites. Everyone has their own opinion of best. Sorry the images are so big, dunno' what happened.
Here's mine:
#5 Let The Right One In
This movie is not perfect, or even close, yet it never slips far off my memory. A coming-of-age story mixed with adult themes. Violence and youth, compassion and terror, the persistant dichotomy between these things makes the film something special.
#4 Spirited Away
People often praise Pixar's work in its ability to serve up stories for kids and adults alike. This movie is remarkable in its ability to give children a beautiful, frightful and exciting universive, and leave a full plate for the well equiped film analyst. There's a lot happening in this movie on many levels. All of that aside, the hand drawn animations and painted backgrounds are the best of Miyazaki's career and a labor of love.
#3 American Beauty
Honest, hilarious and painful. This is a timely film that looks at the problems with modern middle-class living, relationships to people and the world and life itself. It can be viewed in all of these ways, or you can just take it as a dark comedy with great performances. Either way, you'll be left feeling something.
#2 Pulp Fiction
Appropriately titled. This film is seemingly about everything and nothing at the same time. The fantastic screenplay, dark humor and non-linear plot structure become Tarintino's best.
#1 Apocalypse Now
Dark and penetrating. The film's grueling production was hard on the cast and Cappola himself, and the result is staggering. Essentially everything here is rock. The performances, the cinematrography, the progression and its integration of source material. The trip into Cambodia is a trip into the mind and the sinister side of humanity.
