Yeah, if you have trouble sleeping.

Pshhhh. Context, my friend, context. You have to think about where cinema was when that movie came out. Today we have droves of effective sci-fi visions and predictions of the future. Back then, the movie was profound.

A good film doesn't put people to sleep. Tried to watch that film three different times and I ended up bored out of my mind and then dosed off.

I found a lot of "classic" movies to be really bad, filled with bad acting, writing and directing, honestly, I never got why did films such as 2001, clockwork orange, the shining and dr strangelove received so much love. They really shine as an example of how people mindlessly follow opinions of 1 critic who all of a sudden goes against the mainstream ideas.

many of these classical films were coldy received at the time of their release, until years laters, one critic came in and said "this is amazing!" so the whole world starts "OHHHH HOW COULDNT WE REALIZE YES THIS IS AMAZING!! INSTANT CLASSIC!".

I seriously cant watch old movies, the acting in them is so pitiful.

I could never limit it to just one. So I'll list some of my all time most watched movies, and just figure they are my favorites. In no order:

The Matrix

The Fellowship of the Ring

Star Wars

Space Balls

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Raiders

Dark City

Ghostbusters

Braveheart

The Patriot (the Mel Gibson one)

Gladiator

The Game

The Green Mile

Shawshank

Men in Black

I'm sure I'm missing some others.

Hunger

Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

The Seventh Seal

Class of Nuke 'Em High

Naked

Control

Videodrome

Down By Law

Mullholland Dr.

Those ones jumped to mind.

iloverikku11

Genuinely surprised someone else has seen Naked. What did you think made it so great? Personally I thought the dialogue and characters made it memorable Hunger is also a film I enjoyed. Didn't care for Mullholand Dr though don't know why.

Seriously? You don't know what you're talking about. For example, Dr Strangelove was very well received (to my knowledge), and got a good number of awards/nominations.

A majority of his films were well recieved at the time of their release. The Shining is really the only one I can think of that got very mixed reactions when it first came out. I could aslo say 2001 but there were still people praising it as a masterpiece at the time of its release and it still recieved a few oscar noms.
