I loved Running Scared. And yes, very underrated. As for one of the best openings, Up.

I really liked Serenity's. Going from a dream to a flashback to a holographic image was pretty ballsy. Then cut to the exterior fly-by of the ship we all love as it enters atmo. For some reason, seeing Serenity in flight leaves me with a good feeling about CG, no thanks to George Lucas :P

Raiders of the Lost Ark, my other favourite movie, has the classic adventure opening. If you don't know Indiana Jones (blasphemy!) you should at least recognize the jungle and temple scenes.

Suicide Club (Just see for yourself)

28 Weeks Later (So intense and scored by the perfect song)

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (This opening is just sooo funny. The firsst 20 minutes or so of the film are just non-stop hillarious)

Dawn of the Dead 2004 (I remember they played that beginning on TV before the theatrical release of the movie. Knew I had to see it after that)

Donnie Darko (Sets the scene with the sequence with Donnie waking up and going home, then that dinner scene is amazing)

Rocky III - Eye of the Tiger montage with Mr. T and Rocky

Rocky Balboa - Mason Dixon knocks out his opponent in dramatic fashion and the commentator goes "all of boxing is looking for a warrior who thrills with his passion." cue "Take you back" from Rocky I.

Back to the Future 3- "I just sent you back!" "I'm back Doc, I'm back from the future." "GREAT SCOTT!" (passes out).

John Carpenter's The Thing has a great opening scene. I love how it builds tension showing the helicopter chasing the huskey across the snow. Great music too by Ennio Morriconi.

Opening war scene to Terminator 2 is epic.
