In my opinion I prefer Paint.Net, but my experience with Gimp has been very small (it's a bit confusing and frustrating), now I have to say from the reviews I've read and looking at the editing potential of Gimp that it's definetly better than Paint.Net, now I have to say that Paint.Net is easier for begginers but more useful with more editing potential.

So if you're just looking for a quick easy photo editor,get Paint.Net.

If you're a veteran at this stuff and don't mind learning how to use Gimp, get Gimp.

If your looking for simplicity but also a good photo editor then I would go with Paint.net

If you, or someone you know, goes to college, they might be able to find a free reg key for photoshop.

This is true. If you've never really used photo editing software, Gimp will confuse the hell out of you.
