Progressive Rock: Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Asia (not sure if they count...probably not), Yes and Rush.

Progressive Metal: Opeth (Can't believe I forgot them...) Dream Theater, Ayreon, Pain of Salvation, Circus Maximus.

I have to disagree. I thought their latest album was actually fairly decent considering they've been putting out material for ages and manage to come up with new ideas still. I really enjoyed the first and last tracks on the album.

not really metal, but Godspeed You! Black Emporer is the best progressive band ever. Anyone who knows what I am talking about knows I am 100 percent correct. After Godspeed, nothing compares

Progressive isn't really my thing, but I like Pink Floyd, Rush, and Porcupine Tree as "pure" prog-rock while most others that I listen to are mixes of certain genres like Gojira, Between the Buried and Me, and Coheed and Cambria.

I don't really know what progressive rock is if Pink Floyd somehow counts, but I'm told the Mars Volta is a prog rock band, so I'll go with them.

The BEST choice, more like it:P I'm surprised you know who they are. Not many people know/care to listen to their music. It's too complicated for most people

If you're going to classify GSY!BE as prog-rock I might as well say them, but I'm more inclined towards the "post-rock" label.

This is my opinion...you can't have a prog list without Tool and Dream Theater. Opeth is way overrated, as is Zappa IMO.

What I'm implying is that their music is really soothing to the ears. In other words it's slightly ambient. I also listen to their longer songs when I'm working hard on school work.

GY!BE isn't a progressive rock band, though. They're arguably not even rock.

That's pretty much it.

Prog. rock is not a term I like to affiliate with bands I listen to, though I'm not even sure I listen to any bands considered prog.

Sadly, most people ignorant to the genre despise it. They label it as "fake music". This saddens me because the musicianship is excellent most of the time, and I have high respect for most bands in the genre.

Let me clarify. I was not referring to GYBE as a PROGRESSIVE band. By that I mean they progress. I wasn't saying that is the genre, jsut saying that it was my favourite band that progresses. They are post rock, I know that.

Oh, anything progressive. I wasn't insinuating you bashed the genre, I just happen to love it. Everyone who hates it probably hasn't taken the time to listen to the good pieces.

GSY!BE, Porcupine Tree, Ayreon, King Crimson, Opeth, EITS (explosions in the sky), DSO (Diablo Swing Orchestra), Mahavishnu Orchestra, Camel, Devin Townsend

Not sure if that list is 100% purely "prog."

Mars Volta, and Pink floyd

TMV is more prgressive/experimental/phsycodelic rock though.
