I like the late 80's gangster rap, and the soothing 90's rap, with the female voice hooks. You know what I'm talking about :)Is soulja boy actually classed as rap?
Also, I think the 90's are the best time for this genre of music. Not into gangster rap, more into casual, relaxing and positive beats with normal rhymes, without those braggy wannabe lyrics.

Outkast is my fave... especially their first four albums.
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
"Myintrotoletuknow"
"Git Up, Git Out"
"Crumblin' Erb"
Debut album from Outkast. Funky, raw, and entirely produced Organized Noize.
ATLiens
"Jazzy Belle"
"Wheelz of Steel"
"Elevators (Me & You)"
ATLiens is a lot more laidback than their debut, and Outkast's lyrics are more conscious and spiritual.
Aquemini
"Da Art of Storytellin Pt. 1"
"Liberation"
"Chonkyfire"
To describe this album in one word: futuristic.
Stankonia
Outkast's most amibitious album. Experimental and songs like "Stanklove" are straight up P-Funk, you could've swore it came off a Funkadelic album. The album cover is also an homage to Sly & the Family Stone's There's A Riot Goin On, another funk masterpiece..
"B.O.B."
"Red Velvet"
"Gangsta ****"
some other various Outkast tracks through the years:
"Benz or Beamer"
"Phobia"
"Everlasting"
"Player's Ball (Remix)"
Outkast & UGK- "Tough Guy"
Goodie Mob (feat. Andre 3000)- "Thought Process"
Cool Breeze- "Watch For the Hook (Dungeon Family Mix)"
honorable mentions for best group:
A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, De La Soul, UGK, EPMD, Goodie Mob, Geto Boys, N.W.A., Organized Konfusion
here are my fav in no paticular order.
Wu Tang Clan - thsi is my number 1 favorite rap group of all time.
D12
Onyx
DPG - including Dre, Snoop, Warren G... Kurupt, Dat N**** Daz
LOX
Ruff Ryders
House of Pain / Cypress Hill / Funkdoobiest - all individual groups, but they participate in each others albums so often that they go well together
Geto Boys
EPMD
Public Enemy
probably more, but just can't think of them right now
Cannibal Ox. They only released one album, but it's an underground classic. Anybody who says there can't be concept music in rap, should themselves a favor and listen to 'The Cold Vein'.
Iron Galaxy
Ridiculoid feat. El-P
Scream Phoenix
Just a few excerpts from the album, hope you'll enjoy it. As for mainstream groups, I gotta go with Wu-Tang and Bone Thugs...
[QUOTE="mattykovax"][QUOTE="spazzx625"]No love for 2 Live Crew?spazzx625They sucked. Gimmick at its best. How dare you! 2 Live Crew makes serious music about serious business...Seriously,with Ton Loc in the background doing wild thing, seriously!!

Yeah, serious music like "Me So Horny".
Geto Boyz, UGK, Wu-Tang Clan, N.W.A, OutKast, The Firm.
As for newer groups, The Clipse, La Coka Nostra, and Kids In the Hall are good.
I'm from Houston, so I grew up on UGK, Geto Boyz, and S.U.Cit surprises me that there are so many Geto Boys fans here at GS. there music was classic $**t back in the early 90's. i was really into Bushwick's flows. he went ligit and has been into God for a while now. i guess he does christian rap now???

Jedi Mind Tricks, The Demigodz, Army Of The Pharaohs, OuterspaceMrPralineJedi Mind Tricks are ok from what i've heard, but people tell me that I have to listen to Violent By Design to appreciate them.

Yes, that's their best album. The Psycho-Social, Chemical, Biological & Electro-Magnetic Manipulation of Human Consciousness comes second (yes I copied/pasted that :P).
edit: listen to this (featuring Sean Price) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cgH5REyP_g. Three great verses.

Stoupe's production is incredible but I'm not a big fan of Vinnie Paz's rhymes.
"Sacrifice"
"I Against I"
I don't think I've seen anyone post these very underappreciated groups: Goodie Mob, Black Star, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Onyx.
