The ending of American History X was pretty unexpected.

I'm gonna get hated for this because its "overrated", but The Dark Knight had a fairly surprising ending. Same with Iron Man actually I mean Superhero movies just don't end like that.

I don't see how the popularity of a movie should make it any worse. It was a fantastic movie regardless and still is. Don't be shy!

What was surprising about the dark knight's ending?
seriously? how many superhero movies end up with the hero being the bad guy?Videodrome was pretty shocking (and a little confusing...), as was History of Violence, and Ravenous, and many other Cronenburg-y movies.

seriously? how many superhero movies end up with the hero being the bad guy?It was pretty predictable to me, I could easily guess he was going to end up being on the run again. Its not a new thing for a superhero to be an outlaw or an outcast.

I loved Ravenous, very darkly funny film. Especially the bear trap part at the end and Robert Carlyle's line "That was sneaky:P"
Planet of the apes was crazy shocking :D I also want to say The Blair witch Project had an awesome ending annnnd Donnie Darko ..... that was just a messed up ending hahaBlairisawesome
Ohhhh how could I forget Blair Witch. BEST HORROR ENDING EVER!!!
Jay and Silent Bob. I mean how the hell did Jay land such a hot babe?metallica_fan42
lol, great ending. And the best ending credits I've ever seen. Great film.
Rosemary's Baby, just when you thought she was paranoid.
St_JimmyX
haha yea, oh man that was good.
Also, Oldboy...I had to take a shower after that.
I'll have to say I did not expect No Country For Old Men to end the way it did, or unfold the way it did....it kinda ended with no closure..I wanted more information!..:x
I wanted to be clever and post some ending where the villain gets electrocuted, but couldn't think of any
Urm, i don't really get shocked, but I was silly and didn't catch on to Sith Sense until that ending came.
The Sixth Sense, Memento, The Departed, The Usual Suspects, Fight Club.
I'm well aware that's five endings and not "an" ending.
Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, and Lucky Number Slevin come to mind.
Niff_T
Yeah, Fight Club is great! :P
The Orphanage, and also the latest Harry Potter film - I seriously did not expect Dumbledore to die.
I was going to say this. It sank! OMG. My real answer would be either The Usual Suspects or The Village.Titanic

I totally forgot about The Mist, hardly anyone i know has seen it, which is a shame as it's a great flick.
That was perhaps the cheapest most cop out piece of crap ending that I have ever seen. I hate the movie for doing that, and I hate Thomas Jane for his screaming.Speaking for myself, it wasn't a shock per se (really, c'mon Eli,) but just the suddeness of There Will Be Blood's ending was great.
