I'm Currently living in New England (Massachusetts) ... While we don't get hit by hurricanes/tornadoes/earthquakes, the climate is very inconsistent.

What state is best to live in in terms of:

- Employment

- Climate

- Crime rates

- Natural disasters

- Scenery/terrain

- Anything else

New York, New York is fun, its amazing,WHY? cuz lots of nice things to look at, good places to eat, climate is ok, and as long as you stay away from Harlem or the Bronx, you're good for crime.

P.S. dude above me, Canada is not a state. But Toronto, Canada is pretty cool, got hit by a blizzard yesterday but still

Washington and Oregon, by far...

Pros

High level of education

Extremely clean air

Excellent public schools

Beautiful locations

Very rare natural disasters(Mt St. Helen, the occasional landslide, mudslide, flash flood)

Almost no polution

great state benifits

Cons

Rains 9 months out of the year

confusing road systems

Who would win, a certain coach Ditka or a hurricane? But wait, the hurricane is also named Ditka.

I'm gonna say washington (seattle area).

pros:

Jobs - google, microsoft, amazon, quiet a few tech companies have corporate head quarters here. Assuming you have tech skills it's not hard to find a job.

Weather - it get's hot for about a week, and rarely ever drops below freezing. At most you get 3 inches of snow. Rain isn't as bad as you think mostly overcast in the winter, but the summers are awesome. No storms (thunder or snow).

Entertainment - While nothing like vegas, new york or LA there's still stuff to do.

Safety - Seattle is probably one of the safest large cities I've ever been in. Southside can be a bit ghetto but nothing like most large cities.

Outside of Rangoon, Seattle is the most rural big city I've ever seen. Great view, clean, and tons of vegetation.

Cons:

Traffic sucks - people drive slow, can't merge, and on ramps/exits tend to be backed up. Not to mention most of the roads wind around everywhere.

Yuppies - they tend to dominate the population. Expect a lot of pretentious businesses like yoga, tea shops, organic food stores.

Sports - Seahawks, and mariners suck, and the sonics skipped town, and you have to drive 3 hours to what pro hockey. Sounders are popular but again yuppies love their soccer.

Places like Colorado, Oregon, and Maine are always the best places to live. For me, the less people there are, the better. It's mean everything is quieter and you get more privacy. I'd hate to live in a big city.

Texas -one of the better employment rates, good economy (one of the least affected states during the recent downturn), no state tax -good climate (except for this week) -crime rate depends on city (from almost none to a lot) -tornadoes in the north, hurricanes along the gulf...but not much in the middle -beautiful scenery in the hill country -...it's Texas
