Eat smaller meals, like 5 small meals a day. Also, eat only healthy foods, including lean meats and raw vegetables instead of hamburgers and french fries. Eating less, but still eating junk food isn't going to work. Combine that with weight lifting and cardio. Don't expect to shed all your weight the first week. Just stay committed and in time you will improve. Also, get off soda and drink more water.

Also, a huge benefit of eating more smaller meals and drinking a ton of water throughout the day is to help curb your hunger. If you don't eat for a long time, then have a meal, you can overendulge and eat too much.

Everyone is saying eat 5-6 mini meals instead of 3 meals?
There's this poster in my kitchen my dad put up that busts dieting myths, and it specifically says "It's better to eat six mini meals than three squares: INCORRECT"

tepni

Basically the difference is to eat small meals frequently so you always feel full. If you eat breakfast at 7 and then have to wait til 12 or 1 to eat anything at all, you'll probably be pretty hungry and you might overeat at lunch because you're so hungry.

The idea is to always keep yourself satisfied so you're never tempted to snack on unhealthy stuff/whatever's within reach or gorge at your 3 main meals, you don't have to eat 6 meals, but you should keep healthy snacks around so you can grab it between meals and not reach for chips or cake.

Just wanted to point out that you guys are incorrect, at least from what I know. Many people with bulimia (binging and purging) actually end up just maintaining their weight, and many actually gain weight in the long run of it (you can't purge 100% of what you eat, some nutrients are already absorbed), unless they combine it with components of anorexia.

So no, bulimia does not work quite well. Anorexia on the other hand...

those are completely different. You can be fat and bulimic. You cant be fat and anorexic

You are just reinforcing my point, which was that bulimia is not a good weight loss solution.

Also, while technically you are correct, an overweight person can't technically be labeled anorexic (as being underweight is often a diagnostic requirement, though this sometimes depends on who is doing the diagnosing) but rather as ED-NOS (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified), they can have all the same symptoms and habits.

Oh, also forgot to mention that with eating 5 small meals a day, you should aim to space them out every 3-4 hours. I guarantee you if you do this, your metabolism will be raging after consistent eating and working out.

Get your dad to buy you a gym membership and some time with a trainer. Mine had me on a certain calorie/protein intake, plus I was on a treadmill that measured calorie burn. Plus I worked different muscle groups each time.

As it's been said before, diet and exercise.

Also, commitment. Staying skinny(er) after you lose that weight is far harder than losing it in the first place. Make a habit of exercising and exhibiting good eating habits now, and it will be much easier down the line to keep off the weight and be healthier.

1 meal a day is a bad idea b/c your body will retain those calories and sugars like mad instead of burning them when you want to.

A bowl of cereal in the morning, a sandwich or two in the afternoon, a decent entree at night, and a good exercise routine should help you a lot. Don't expect miracles in a few days, but the more you stick to it, the better it will help you and the more results you will see.

Honestly though, I'm not a doctor. If you want actual advice from someone qualified, go see a real professional in the field like a doctor or a nutritionist.

6 small meals a day, 3 main, 3 small ones, only drink water and no more then 2-3 dl of milk a day, cut out the bread, cut out the sugars, actually cut out mosr carbs that do you no good. Also, workout, workout workout, its not going to be easy, but weight loss is never easy, and if you think its too hard, then you should just give up and just eat everyday, because you dont get anywhere without some results, raining outside? Do your stuff inside, its too cold to job outside? Be a man and take it!

Diet and exercise of course...but the truth is that people in general have no idea how many calories they eat in a day. Say you drink a can of mt dew (only 12oz) a day. Thats 170 calories/day. If you drank that every day for a month thats 5100 calories, the calories basically add up to the equivalent of 2-3 days worth of food. You dont need crazy radicle diet changes to make an impact. Also of note the concept that walking is exercise is a lie as well. Its better then nothing and the more overweight you are the more calories you burn. But if you really want to lose weight you need resistance training plus working up to serious cardio ie running.

Eat less than 1100 calories a day followed by cardio work outs (steppers, treat-mill, running etc)... and off course heed the basic suggestions of not touching junk food. I also recommend drinking some green tea as it help burn fat and oils in your body. Whatever you do never EVER starve yourself, keep your food intake rhythm balanced.. but eat proper! Like snack on fruits and vegetables instead of salted chips... I've lost up to 15 kg (33 pounds) in 7 months by keeping up with this routine ... I was pretty fat back in the day haha..

1 meal? you need like 6 small meals. Combine that with water/tea and some walking and you're golden. It doesn't hurt to throw in some sit ups in there either.

Weight loss = Calories out >Calories in.

It's really that simple people. Just burn more calories than you consume, and you will start to lose weight. Anything else is a gimmick or a scam.

It's like others have said. If you eat one meal a day, it will work, but at the same time, human bodies are better off with meals throughout the day. Focus on cardio workouts, but also do some weight training to keep muscles. You don't want to be skin and bones, do you? One meal a day does work and so does fasting. Also, it might be easier to help you if you explain why you're doing it. Your goal can make a difference.

I've been eating only one meal a day.

tepni

NoooooOOOO!

eating once or twice a day is how I gainedweight. Its called starvation, and it is a guaranteed weigh to not lose weight. In fact, people that eat once a day have a higher body fat percetnage, even if they only weigh like 110 pounds (it is why anorexics can have up to 20% body fat and yet only weigh like 80 pounds).

Eat 4+ times a day. Ive lost 20 pounds in the past month eating 2800 calories over four or five meals instead of eating 2400 calories over two meals. Thats all I did lol.

Eat anything you want for breakfast
Have a snack
Eat lunch
Have a snack
Eat a small dinner
And not eat past 8PM...this helps a lot too.

I literally cant comprehend what people have such a hard time with the concept of EXERCISE AND DIET. You eat less, or healthier foods and you run or do light workouts everyday you'll lose weight.

Jolt_counter119

some of us do not have the luxury of excess free time, or we have weird schedules, work long hours, etc. Also, the amount of work at the gyma lot of us have to put in yields such a small payoff it is hard to justify going to the gym when youer beat from a long day at work.

I am not disagreeing with you, your overall message is right, just...dont make it sound like its easy and if you dont subscribe to it your somehow foolish or weak or whatever.

Weight is incredibly easy to put on, and insanely difficult to take off. Ive lost weight, but when I look at the fact that I am only 20% of the way to my goal and how hard I have worked to get there, its extremely discouraging.

I feel like Sisyphus, if you want to know the truth lol

The best way to diet is to EAT! But here is the thing; you have to eat smart!

Eat more fiber and protein. You should eat at least 0.8 grams of protein for every 1 pound you weigh. If you don't eat enough protein, you may lose weight, but it will be in your muscle.

Eat in between meals. You want to keep your metabolism going and burning fat, so eat small meals in between smaller meals.

Lift weights! Building muscle helps burn fat. It gives you a 40 hour metabolism boost. Be sure to eat at least 20g of protein before and after.

And indulge occasionally. You want a diet that you can live with, so occasionally giving in to unhealthy food is alright, but control yourself!

Instead of limiting Fat, limit your Carbohydrates. Just watch the "Fat Head" documentary on Netflix and you'll see why.

Also, fad diets do NOT work.

I've googled and googled...but I'm finding so many different answers and I don't know what to listen to.

I've been eating only one meal a day. My dad says it works. But I googled it and a lot of people say it ends up making you gain more weight somehow?

I'm not losing weight to be skinnier, I'm losing it for other reasons that I don't feel like saying here. So PM me before you lecture me or tell me I don't need to. I'd really just like to hear different methods of losing weight from you all.

tepni

When you are losing weight, you don't want to starve yourself. You want to eat a little bit less than you need... and you want it to be good food. As far as exercising, there is plenty of ways. You can walk, jog, sprint, do interval training, etc. I personally like to do sprints and intervals. Example: Sprint all out for 20 seconds, slow jog for 10, then sprint all out for 20 seconds, etc, and continue that for about 12 minutes. Or you can do a brisk walk on a treadmill for an hour. Or go play basketball. Just do something active.

And like I said... eat good food. It's probably the most important thing. Eat whole foods: eggs, fish, chicken, nuts, veggies, fruit, etc. Here is a sample diet:

Breakfast:

eggs, oatmeal, and some almonds.

Snack

protein shake with blueberries and low-fat milk.

Lunch

tuna or tilapia with mixed veggies and kidney beans.

Snack

100% liquid egg whites and a banana.

Dinner

chicken or turkey breast with a sweet potato and a dark green salad.

Snack before bed

oatmeal, a protein shake, and some almonds or cashews.

That diet is roughly a 40%/40%/20% ratio of carbs, protein, and fat, respectively... the gold standard ratio. If you notice, that is 6 times a day that you are eating... eating every 3 hours boosts your metabolism.

You can even have a cheat day where you eat some foods that are "bad" for you.

You should do cardio first thing in the morning instead of at night.

ExoticAnimal

Why is this? I always hear this advice and don't get it. People tell me it's because your body burns calories at a higher rate for the rest of the day, I tend to think if you do it right before bed, if you don't eat after working out your body will HAVE to burn calories and won't be slowed down by having to metabolize meals, it can (has to) focus solely on burning fat.

I don't remember the exact reasoning behind it but it has to do with your metabolism slowing down once you are asleep so you won't be getting the same results had you done it in the morning where the metabolism will be burning at a high rate all day.

ITS THE FOOD YOUR EATING, if you eat healthy then you will loose the pounds
