I believe I read the part where it is said we don't know him as Jehovah, but as "our God." Isn't it disrespectful to call God by his name? :\

Isn't God's real name YHWH?
Yes, but because there are no vowels in it, it's pronounced as YeHoVaH which is spelled with a J.[QUOTE="Shad0ki11"][QUOTE="shoot-first"]

Both work actually. Either way, i'd stay away from using that as a swear. PS: There is a book about how many names God has(no offense to anyone but Allah isn't one of them, so we're worshipping a different God). That is the question, no one knows or bothered that the fact that "Joannaeden" registered today and hasn't even made a reply to this thread.Okay...
Can I ask what the point of this thread is?

I doubt she cares.TC, religious topics are not a good way to be popular on OT.

Jehovah and Yahweh are the same thing. The original Hebrew had no vowels and only have many years did the scholars add vowels (looks like dots). The Tetragrammaton (YHWH) was never given vowels because the name of God was thought to be so holy, they would not even pronounce His name. The reason is also linked to the third commandment's warning not to misuse the Lord's name. As a result, how the name is pronounced is not easy to find out. Hundreds of years ago people tried to figure out how the word was pronounced and Jehovah became the typical translation. More recent scholarly work thinks the word to be pronounced Yahweh. The origin of the name comes from Exodus 3:14, "God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM . This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.' "" Based upon this text and a comparison of YHWH to other words within the Hebrew language, the name is some literal variant of I AM. YHWH is the personal name of God and any time it is used is to stress now only God's nature (can best be described as HE IS). As the word was never pronounced by the ancient Jews, the word Elohim was put in its place. Elohim means God (also used as gods. The plural nature of the word is used for emphasis). Anytime you read the Old Testament and LORD is in all capital letters, it has the name YHWH. If you read the New Testament, especially John, Jesus makes I AM statements. Many times he refers to himself as I AM and as a result, the Pharisees seek to murder him on the spot... eventually doing so on the cross. By the way, Jesus died for committing blasphemy, not making political statements. Within the Greek Old Testament, the LXX, the word used in the place of YHWH is also used in Paul's writings. Paul's favorite name for Jesus is Lord and is rooted in the name YHWH. Paul's claim that Jesus is Lord is not only showing a power over us but an ultimate power.Hmmm...
The God thing never really worked out for me, I was raised a christian and had myself brainwashed, now I'm trying to figure things out for myself rather then believing a book inspired by God but written by men.
Whether I'm walking the wrong path or not will be revealed in time I'm sure, but until then, preaching on a video game forum is a strange approach.
