Really, where does it say that? I've read the Bible in its entirety, and I do not recall that.

Really? Did you skip Leviticus?

Or Deuteronomy...

Meh, it was OK.  Not as good as Spider-Man.  I mean to me, it was boring, because it seems like everyone does something wrong to piss off this one bully dude.  And then comes along this other guy who all of a sudden can't do anything wrong, so he gets wasted for no reason.  I think though if they had Arnold play the guy who yells at people, it would make an awesome movie.

Hopefully a basic grasp of the English language is not a requirement to get into heaven because you would fail miserably.

on morals..perhaps the lack thereof depending on the version...but let's not forget what else is represented:  history, ethnicity, culture, geography and then some.  the bible was also passed down in tradition by women as well.  when the catholic church became prominent, the wording was changed to fit that particular time's society, thus partially leading to the belief that women shouldn't be priests and such.

The Satanic Bible is much, much more of a manual to life than some 2,000 year old book written by people who don't understand human nature at all.

I suggest The Prophet by Khalil Gibran.

It kicks the Bible in the nuts when it comes to poetically teaching one about life.

I've read it, and I hate it.  It says I should be dead because I work on Sundays.  It's also quite poorly written, as many of its plot points are repeated more than once, main ideas are given and then taken away.  I normally love fantasy books, but this one was awful.

Started reading it but got really really bored with the overall style of telling things. Prolly because I am atheist. I plan on reading Sun Tzu - The art of war though.

I'm a Christian, but I think the Bible is quite interesting even from a non belivers point of view. Here are some neat stories found in it.

Here is a story of a spy who kills a fat king.

I've read as much as I could before I got bored. It's got a good plot, but I was very aware I was reading a book. I was not being sucked into the story line at all.
His dark materials trilogy by Phillip Pullmen on the other hand, are the best books ever written, and have a very good point of view on religion.

Even for people who aren't religious or even Christian, there's a bunch of really good stories in there... and there's a bunch of really good lessons in there too. I'm not so much a Christian but I do believe that there's a lot of wisdom in there.

I tend to like secular books more though. I like Aldous Huxley and Fyodor Dostoevsky.

The way I see it is I think any one who takes the Bible literally or as a guide line of life as their only source, lacks intelligence... Even if magically the first Bible were real and did come from god, the Bible today isn't that book.. No the Bible today has been translated thousands of times to the point its meaning could be completely different..  Not just that but this is giving the generous assumption that man did not alter for their own bias and purposes (which they have thus why there are so many sects in Christianity as well as other religions alone)..   I have lost just about all respect for Christianty as a religion in the past 10 years due to the many bigots and fundamentalists that try to control our government..

And no I believe there is far better books out there with more philosophical meanings and stories far superior to the Bible..  The Art of War being one of those.
