Ok so I always hear stupid sh*t like "can God make a stone so heave he cannot lift it?" and stupid sh*t like that. And "why is there evil"? Who the fvck gives a sh*t?

The really BIG paradox is

If God is eternal, infite, unlimited and sh*t like that, how can something limited and finite, i.e. the universe, even exist?

Is there anyone who believes in God with any thought on this that could possibly make you more content with this paradox?

You really did deserve that NOTcar

The Universe was created out of imperfection. Why does this matter? Because what all humans perceive to be god is that of a perfect being. At one in time all the atoms of the Universe were uniform and perfectly separated from each other. Then, one of them gravitated to another and then the rest gravitated toward them and so on. If God created the Universe in his reflection then the Universe would be perfect. But clearly it is not perfect because all that we see today started from imperfection. So does the description of a perfect being necessarily include the infinite? That seems contradictory to what we know.

I saw it on a show on the Science channel written and narrated (actually as I recall it is some English guy narrating but Hawking wrote it) by Stephen Hawking. I can find out the name of the show if you want.

I thought God was supposed to be incomprehensible? I can comprehend that size. It is difficult to imagine, but possible.

I'm fairly sure that is incorrect. If you knew how big the universe is, your soul would be crushed by knowing how unimportant you are in comparision.

That's not that complicated. You can just say He made it that way.

[QUOTE="FMAB_GTO"][QUOTE="metroidprime55"]Whoa, what if we are all in god's brain and the universe is a brain cell and the multiverse is actually the space between the brain cells in god's brain and all universes are brain cells and...D:metroidprime55
Or maybe some other people exist within each of our brain cells =P

What if what we are seeing in our imaginations is actually happening in a universe in our brains! What a crazy theory but I like it.

I'm going to stay out of this whole discussion, but if that were the case, then I feel extremely sorry for the universe inside my head.

Also: the question is not how can a finite universe exist (since something finite can exist within something infinite) the real question is how can god exist...

An infinite entitity can not exist in any meaningful way since if god is infinite he should also be doing everything possible at all times, etc. Also, if he is infinite, how can he even think? Or choose to create things in the way he created them, since being infinite means you are thinking about doing everything at once as well.

If any of these are not true (if god is limited by some factors), than it means god is not infinite, and if god is not infinite, he is not a real god since the question would become: where did this finite god come from?

I thought I should add this as well:

The answer is simple. A God would not be limited by something He created.

I'm sorry, I don't really know how to answer your question - they're completely different objects and completely different types of object. It's like asking 'what is the relation between a leopard and the number 7?' - there's not much that can be said other than the fact that they're totally different

zero is between plus and minus infinity,so they're different.

Isn't it "finite" within special relativity and "infinite" within quantum mechanics? I wish xaos was still here to explain.

I can't give an educated answer. I won't be getting into relativity and quantum mechanics for another year. I still have to finish my lower-division physics courses. All I know for now is that -near as we can tell- the universe has a flat curvature, which suggests that it's infinite in extent.

Unfortunately I don't know much about either general relativity or cosmology but I have the same impression as blood - that as far as we can see the universe is flat which implies an infinite size. Also, I do know about special relativity and quantum mechanics and as far as I'm aware, neither theory makes a prediction about the size of the universe

It's flat but there is still "thickness" to it, no? And the expansion is causing the relative distance between all objects to increase?

Well, I don't really know what would be the physical meaning of 'thickness', since the term 'flat' is basically an analogy (comparing warped 3D space to warped 2D space). But idk, maybe it does. I know so little about cosmology!! :< But I do know that that's true about expansion causing the distance between objects to increase.
