I miss Darrell Abbott myself.

Wait, I thought you could only make a poll once every 24 hours, or so.

The Doors were fantastic, as a whole.

Jim Morrison was just a pretty face who wrote good lyrics. When he died was an alcoholic/addicted to drugs (and i think he quit the band). He didn't really have a huge impact on modern music. The Doors did. Jim Morrison just made them accessable.

ya true true, there's no denying that both were really good for their time, but imo, Lennon and the Beattles had more influence in shaping today's music.

He is a legend, no doubt, but I would not consider him a loss to the music industry. He died well after his prime. I still think Buddy Holly would be considered one of the biggest losses considering he died about a year and a half into his career and is still considered one of the innovators of modern music.

well Jackson died after the prime of his time and after doing a lot, a LOT of questionable things in public :P You also got to remember that he was old enough so that a new generation didn't know him as well as some of us older dudes. Hence why he probably gets some hate. :?

Ok, here goes again. I can't speak to Elvis, Lennon, or Morrison because they were before my time, musically speaking. But here was my post in the other topic: Kurt Cobain. Mainly because that whole "scene" died for the most part without him. To see the progression Nirvana made from Bleach to In Untero, is still amazing. Would they have fizzled out, maybe. But would we have had the, for the most part, terrible 95'-00' or so of music if Nirvana was still making music and influencing new bands. It's a question I would have loved to know the answer to. And to the scores that think Nirvana is overrated, Nirvana & NWA totally changed musical tastes of millions (mostly around my age then, my late teens) when they both came out, they are the seminal bands of my lifetime.

Elvis Presley.

He was well-liked by Presidents, and was American to his core.

He rode a Harley-Davidson. /thread.

other: Jimi Hendrix. because he died during the peak of his career. his best stuff was probably yet to come. guys like Lennon, Elvis and especially MJ's best years were behind them by the time they died. that sounds cold, but come on, it's not like MJ could have exactly come out with another Thriller in 2010.

John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin. He had such intense power and was able to make the drums sound louder with such little effort.

hard question........

hendrix he did different things with the guitar and the distortion could have helped make metal or funk plus like someone said he was 28 he had years left

2pac because id rather hae changes or ghetto gospel or califoria love than little wayne and because its only 1 of about 4 songs with auto tune i like

jim morriosn was meant to have being trying to become a serious poet from what i heard (wiki) the doors have'nt influenced much

what about hidel slovek from rhcp? would be interested to know where there music would have gone with him

for me jimi hendrix becasue he was still in his prime and well it would be cool to have him in 2010

and what another poster said about mj not making another triller in 2010 the thing is no one knows jimi hendrix could have bombed after the early seventies jim morrison could have died penniless and unknown and past his prime

MJ didn't do anything in the last I-dont-know-how-many years. His passing wasn't a great loss for the music industry, he was way past his prime.

I voted lennon because he was still a big influence on popular music as a whole at the time he died. I'd also say Cobain though, grunge was on it's way out at that point and his death pretty much sealed the deal on it. While still sad, elvis was on a major decline when he died and micheal jackson lost his modern influence when the molestation accusations started popping up. All very sad but those are my thoughts.
