I feel like slapping anyone who compares this to what blacks went through. The only thing gays are crying about is marriage. Black have been killed because they were black, hanged, crosses burned on lawns, couldnt sit in the front of the bus, couldnt get decent education, and etc.Tjeremiah1988You have got to be joking me.... Your right black people were the only ones that were killed.....

Black have been killed because they were black, hanged, crosses burned on lawns, couldnt sit in the front of the bus, couldnt get decent education, and etc.Tjeremiah1988Homosexuals have been victimised a lot in recent history. Plenty have been abused, fired from their jobs, and murdered because of who they were. Black people weren't illegal. Black people couldn't get go to prison in the US because of who they are. Black people do not have to worry about recieving the death penalty or a life sentence if they live in certain countries in the world, even to this day. To say that the civil rights movement, now that blacks have their rights, is in no way comparable to the LGBT movement is closed-minded. Black people are not the only minority group to try and gain some basic rights in recent history.
Woo, I gotta see that one! But still, while I don't believe the struggle of blacks and the struggles of gays are directly comparable, there are some cases in which both struggles meet an equilibrium. The one thing that pops into my head is segregation and the Separate but Equal laws.stevenk4k5Well its bad to compare two struggles together but i personaly get offended when someone says a black persons struggles are un-comparable to that of a homosexual. They are almost exactly the same thing, except one is sexuality and the other is race....

[QUOTE="Tjeremiah1988"][QUOTE="mexicangordo"] So whats your point? mexicangordoI already stated my point.. Dude you can't be serious... You think the only thing Homosexuals are fighting for is "marriage?" To be honest, that is where the uproar seems to be coming from. Before Prop 8 was passed, gays were content with their lives. I haven't heard of a gay bashing case in many MANY years. Many people turn a blind eye to gays because it has become so common to see homosexual couples... it's just another way of life that does no harm.

I hate when people compare the civil rights struggle of the 60's to the gay marriage debate...they are not comparable on any level... fat_robThey are not directly comparable (I honestly believe nothing can compare to 400 YEARS of struggle) but there are some shared struggles between blacks and gays.

Perhaps Prop 8 was the final straw for gays that were already trying very hard to get equal rights, I really don't know.

I've never heard of a LGBT student having to be escorted by police to go to school. While both groups have their struggles, the scope of the black struggle for equality throughout the world has been far more difficult that the LGBT. To even try and compare the two is simply ludicrous.bobg360Six months ago a Homosexual student was killed in California.... And many others are still being harassed, abused, neglected, killed durring 2008 not the 1960's.... but then again it still uncomparable to the Black community simply because the LGBT community are "different."

Still the numbers are no where close to those of the 60's. Plus it can be extremely easy to hide your sexuality (not that you should), but you can't hide your ethnicity,Â

I never quite understood this - why are they all grouped together?
I hate this imaginary culture "war" between the blacks and the gays that keeps on circling the news cycles. If anything it is the mormoms and the evangelicals that are at "war" with the gays. -Sun_Tzu-Thank you! Thats what ive been trying to get across (not the mormon and evangelicals part)

How do black homosexuals feel?entropyechoI'm bisexual and I'm African-American and to be honest with you, like I've stated earlier in the thread, I believe that you can not directly compare 400 years of slavery, lashings, murders, and degradation to the 50 year struggle of gays. This is not saying that gays have not struggled because they have; they have been fighting for equal rights, many have been beaten for being who they are but honestly, I haven't seen this happen in many years. Gays have the right to marriage where I live (Connecticut), there is a Gay Pride parade held every year here as well as up in New York. Many gays walk the streets and live alongside heterosexuals and there are no problems. Of course you have immature students that make fun of gays but they are impressionable; I seldom hear mature adults bad talk gays. The thing is "If it isn't directly harming me then why should I even worry about it?"
I hate this imaginary culture "war" between the blacks and the gays that keeps on circling the news cycles. 70% of blacks who voted on Prop8 in California were for it.
