It seems that the next time we find a bad driver over the highway. we may have to blame their genes afterall....
Is it true that there are so many bad drivers in US ? :o

How do you calculate what is a "bad driver"? Anyway last I recall China had a hugely disproportionate percentage of the worlds automobile deaths.duxup
AHA ! I knew this would grab your attention ! :) :P
A bad driver definition ?:o MMhh.....didn't see that one coming.....

Well wouldn't that be an important part of such a study? Actually being able to identify who is a bad driver in order to verify if the gene has anything to do with it? ;) It seems kind of circular if you don't: Bad drivers have the gene, so anyone who has the gene is a bad driver, and we identify them by this gene. Wah?It says that a test to determine whether someone has the gene variant is not commercially available, at this time..... Imagine a quick blood test, like the ones used for diabetes: "I'm sorry sir, you have the gene variant....your license will be revoked"and you still have to pay $ your bill ! :o
I'd like to hear thoughts about insurance companies about this.
There would have to be a standard definition for "bad driving" in some sort of way.

Someone would pass a "discrimination" law to "protect" these bad drivers.....though in reality just like anti-age discrimination laws they'd be meaningless and the insurance companies would find a way to charge these people more money >_>

cheap knock-off cars of other manufacturers? less the safety features.. http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fortune/0810/gallery.china_cars.fortune/index.html The cars stink, but from what I've seen so does some of the driving. Seeing folks who miss their exit stop and back up on the highway is not uncommon from what I've heard.[QUOTE="duxup"]How do you calculate what is a "bad driver"? I'm getting kind of sick of genetics being tagged as the ultimate cause of everything. Genes may be markers of a behavioural disposition under certain circumstances, but a gene for bad driving is ludicrous.jimmyjammer69
i agree lol
genetics might provide certain things, such as slightly bad reflexes or bad reasoning under stress, but they dont necessarily make someone a bad driver as all those hurdles can be overcome with simple brainpower and thought.

Seriously. It's like the approach of tackling all problems with medication. Depressed? Don't try to improve your life or change the things that put you in that situation - blame it on your seretonin levels and get yourself chemically altered. Biochemical reduction of all problems ftl. It's because we're being taught poorly. In Germany, personally classes are required and you can't get a licence until you are 18 over there, and that's why they can have a highway with no speed limit, and make some of the best cars in the world.NintendevilI agree. In Canada It is mandatory that you spend 8months driving with an adult beside you before you are allowed to drive alone. The licensing in the US is rediculous

Genetics does have the ability to make you are very good driver, like Nascar. But no genetics is needed to be a safe driver of regular roads.[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"][QUOTE="jimmyjammer69"]I'm getting kind of sick of genetics being tagged as the ultimate cause of everything. "Oh, Im fat because of genetics...oooh, cake" om nom nom
You know, I am fat too, and yes, genetics played a role to an extent (I was almost 12 pounds when born) and I was large my entire life despite eating healthy and excersing near-daily, but I was never morbidly obese until a few years ago. Depression, a sedentary lifestyle, and poor self discipline led to that.
I just hate seeing other fat people using genetics as an excuse. If youre husky fat (like an NFL lineman, a weightlifter, etc)and live an active lifestyle, thats genetics. If youre morbidly obese (like thighs bigger than people's wastes, stomachs that reach your knees, etc), that is your fault.
Like I always say, life is grey, not black and white. Just own up to your mistakes and use reason, not excuses, for certain things beyond your control
You know it might just be that all you seem to have is straight roads over in the US and dont get any real hard roads to get better on.
Wolls
WTF? I'm in the U.S., and there isn't a straight road for hundreds of miles around. That's what mountains will do, and we have two giant chains of them on either side of the country.
