I've been working now for a couple of months in an accountaqncy firm and the other day I added as friend on facebook one of my colleagues, but he must have "friends" with the boss because now i've gotten a friend request from the boss/CEO/head of the whole damn firm. So what do I do, im afraid I might piss him off if I don't accept but on the other hand I don't want him to see any current or future embarassing pictures/wall posts/ comments on my profile because frankly they're none of his business and im afraid it won't look good for my image. What do you guys think?Trooperdx3117You can always accept it and then restrict his access to your information.
Hold on you can edit what just one person see's on your profile, how? Trooperdx3117in privacy settings hit custom i think and you can block some people
Ignore it. If they bring it up at work, say you don't go on Facebook very often. Continue to ignore. They should get the picture eventually.
Seriously. My friend lost his job because she added her boss and the boss saw some of the pictures she had.
And that is what im terrified of musicman, but on the other hand im absolutely terrified of him and if I don't add him it'll look bad. Im still trying to figure out this whole privacy setting thing on facebook, i've gone through what feels like 10 different menu's and pop up windows and im still not sure what im doing here. Its time like this that I feel so old and out of touch with technologyTrooperdx3117
Account > Privacy Settings
From here you can:
1. Click on block list and put in his name so you don't get invites or anything, he'll basically stop existing in Facebook-land.
Or if you add him:
2. Click customize settings, then the gray boxes for everything you want hidden from him (wall posts, religion, politics, etc). Then click custom for each one. Add his name to the "Hide this from" box.
It's really not that complicated. If you can't even figure out the privacy settings (and I'm not trying to be rude), maybe it's just safer to decline the invite, block him, and say you only check it every few months. He can't MAKE you check Facebook.
TC, you work for an actual company? If so, your boss technically isn't allowed to do that.
EDIT: Full post finally loaded up. I would say ignore it if the head of the firm is on there.
It is 100% cool to say to your boss:
"I like to keep my personal life seperate from my work life and I keep Facebook for personal friends."
Even if you have a co-worker as your facebook friend. Co-workers tend to be buddies so he'll understand.
I work a 3M right now and I would not dream of putting my boss on my facebook. It shows the company that you understand the difference between professional behavior and work behavior.
Definitely file this one in the "Don't" drawer. There are certain personal/professional lines that shouldn't be crossed. Your boss is out of line for even sending a friend request and not respecting your boundaries.
don't accept or decline the request. mayforcebeyouThis! For him it will seem like that you never got around to see the notification. Thus, making him think you are RARELY on FB.
Bad idea, just ignore and set all your settings to 'Friends only'. I know a friend of mine who got fired as he rang up work saying he was ill, yet posted on Facebook saying he's "Off out to the pub". His boss saw it... :/meconate
Well that is just plain silly now isn't it. Being in recruitment I've caught a couple of people sorely lacking common sense before...
Delete your facebook. Call your friends and family on the phone. Or better yet, go see them in person. Facebook is a big pile identity theft and datamining waiting to happen, and a great way for your boss to spy on you.
Seriously. My friend lost his job because she added her boss and the boss saw some of the pictures she had.

Your friend used to be a man? I can see how the boss might find that difficult.
[QUOTE="mrmusicman247"]Your friend used to be a man? I can see how the boss might find that difficult.Exactly. It doesn't concern your boss what you do off the job. Don't add your boss on Facebook.
