In movies, they show boxers training a lot, and it's so inspiring… All that hard work.

But quite frankly, similar to wrestling and most combat sports, boxing isn't all that interesting to watch, for a number of personal reasons.

In any case, who enjoys watching boxing matches? There's a difference between enjoying a sport and just betting on someone in the boxing ring.

But like football or basketball, everyone has their own tastes right?

What an odd statement...

Well, to be truthful i never noticed the finer points of boxing until playing Fight Night 3... After that boxing was much more nuanced and tactical. Even until that point though, i found it entertaining if only for the physical violence!

The overall sport has dropped in quality the last few years. You just don't have a lot of the bigger names out there anymore. However, boxing is a sport. Most people go to a boxing match expecting to see power punches and KO's, but there's far more to the sport than just that. It's like watching soccer - you really have to know the sport and its rules to have an appreciation of it. It doesn't always have the flash that attracts outside people.

I watch boxing all the time on HBO and then catch the HBO PPV re-runs the next night. I enjoy watching the guys trying to weigh their opponents strengths and weakness all while trying to defend themselves and looking for the right opportunity to strike. Last Saturdays HBO Boxing with Maidana and Cayo was a pretty good bout. Now I'm waiting for Mayweather and Mosley to fight and hopefully Mayweather won't punk out and Pacquiao's challenge.

That was an awesome fight. It's a great example of what experience and training does for a fighter, too.

I wish boxing (and all combat sports) would borrow a page from Street Fighter and have combatants always announce their move. "Uppercut! Uppercut! Body... PUNCH!"

This is somewhat like annoucing your saying. Bang!

You should watch the Mayweather vs. Mosley fight. It should be a good one since their is so much trash talking and they hate each others guts.

Any fight fans see the Dirrell v. Abraham fight on showtime? It was a good fight until that damn Armenian has to go and be a sore loser with hitting a downed fighter.

Boxing is one of those sports that when you know the ins and outs of the sport, it makes watching it all the more better. I would say it's kind of like soccer. You have to know the nuances and rules of the game to truly enjoy what you are seeing. It's a very technical sport.

Maidana is a bad dude. Junior WW and WW is where it is at in boxing right now. Amir Khan wants nothing to do with Maidana now. I would like to see him and Timothy Bradley go at it.

Just an opinion. People always say golf is boring, cricket it boring, soccer is boring, tennis is boring, baseball is boring, American football is boring, rugby is boring, wrestling, baskeball is boring. It goes on and on, understand the sport, support a team then you will find most sports interesting to watch, that's what I found out.

It's because the boxers now are boring. Fights with guys like mike tyson in their prime are awesome to watch. Now heavyweights just jab jab jab go back and hope to win on points.

I would have to say it has picked up over the last few years. I mean Pacquiao Hatton was the highest selling bout in about 20 years. The welter weights and the similar weight classes are amazing right now and have two active fighters (Pacquiao and Mayweather) who will go down as legends.

he never had a boring match, except the clottey fight, but that's because clottey barely throw any punch because he got scared to get counter punch from pacman, that two hand punch from pacman was kinda funny

The ONLY time boxing is boring to watch is when you have fighters who care more about the purse than the actual fight. But when two fighters come in and both expect to win then you have a great fight. You should really watch some old-school fights. Man, those will get your blood pumping.

Watch the lighter weight classes; they tend to be a lot more tactical and interesting, as opposed to the dreadnought spectacle of the heavyweights

Of course it's boring to watch. It's like watching someone shoot a gun. Although I'm not the belligerent type so maybe that's why boxing bores me. For me fighting is surgical. I'm not gonna play with him, I'm gonna kill him. Iwouldn't bop him around with some gloves, I would break his neck or crush his cranium.

Sure trainingfor mortal combat is a good idea so when the time comes you are prepaired to do what must be done, but to throw on some gloves to bop each other around for sport may be fun for those who like to hit, but who wants to watch it?

Boxing has becomes a sport for big guys. And that's how they end up gravitating to the sport. The can hit hard and take a lot of hardhits. All it really comes down to is who can take more hits. Or who has more endurance. Either they can't take anymore hits ore they run out of energy. It's pretty much a sport of endurance. They wear each other down until one no longer has enough energy to hit, take hits, block punches or dodge punches. One their at that point all it takes is one good hit to the jaw because the fatigue won't allow them to keep their neckfrom twisting. Once that happens their brain will short and they will wake in a daze. Or they may just be knocked into a daze and fall down because they are barely conscious. It's an endurance sport.

the problem is that american boxers are boring to watch, very defensive style for the most part and they only care about the next payday instead of the glory you achieve in the ring. Watch mexican boxers, those are some warriors right there. Look up Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera, now those are some warriors that give you your money's worth, its these american boxers that are killing the sport. Manny Paquiao is also a great warrior. what a suprise not american.

I now only watch the lighter weight classes the heavyweight class went way downhill. Pacquiao Vs Mayweather if it ever happens will be epic. Although honestly I would rather see him fight Mosley because they are both great offensive talents.

Boxing began with fighters fighting "bare-knuckled". This was very prominent in the early stages of boxing and still happens a lot today, though it is not as prominent or as popular as modern boxing. Without those gloves you hate so much, boxing is a far more dangerous sport. The purpose of the gloves is to spread the force of a boxers punch over a large area so that the effect is lessened when a fighter is struck.

Professional boxers who fought without gloves had a nasty habit for breaking the other fighter's bones. As a boxer without gloves can hit with enough force to literally shatter bones - which explains the over sized gloves. Now, it was still a battle of attrition but fighters were getting seriously hurt. Fighters came in expecting to injure the other fighters. Gloves were introduced as a way to safeguard the fighters from injuries and prolong fights. You'd be surprised how much strategy is involved in the sport of boxing. Gloves have given fighters some leeway in taking hits, but watch some older fights when people were using barehands (which are hard to find) or when boxing introduced much smaller gloves. Boxers were dropping in the ring left and right, and leaving the ring with serious injuries.

And what you are talking about is not fighting, its murder. Crushing the cranium? What sport allows that?

Boxing is just as interesting and exciting as UFC imo, the only differences are there are no kicks, and the hits are somewhat cushioned (less bloody)

Boxing is too complicated. Not the sport itself, but the bureaucracy behind it all. Look at the UFC, when the fans want two people to fight, it usually happens sooner or later. But with boxing that rarely ever happens thanks to shady fight promoters. Where's my Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight? Boxing is just so out of touch with it's own fans today.

Boxing puts me to sleep. It's too one dimensional and there ain't enough big name fighters to make me care now. I prefer wrestling and MMA. Wrestling because of the storylines and MMA because of the great fighters and different styles.

But I'm also a boxing fan, so I think you're insane. And please, don't compare "wrestling" to boxing. Unless you're talking about real wrestling. None of the "Sports Entertainment" crap.
