[QUOTE="Thebettafish"]Wow, this is such a great example of why all video games are bad, and why the media is doing such a good job of informing us and putting games in the proper light that they are. Quite obviously, these two children were perfect angels before they played a couple of hours of GTAIV, which turned them into absolute psychopaths filled with the need to stone and hang kittens. This well written article, free of any grammatical errors and perfectly truthful is what we need more of in our media today!

Wow, I think my sarcasm detector just broke...
lolz mine too.
As sad as this is, an animals life will always remain less valuble than a humans life.[QUOTE="chrisrooR"][QUOTE="clembo1990"] They murdered a kitten. Kittens are > evil satan kids.black_cat19
To you, maybe... But even if that were the case, it doesn't give anyone the right to just kill something (human or not) for no good reason, and these kids must be pretty ****** up to stone a cat for fun and hang its corpse from a tree, just because they're young doesn't mean they can't be evil (which they are).
By the way, of course I wouldn't stone them, but it just makes me so angry to hear this...

Wow, what are people coming to these days. HelbrecNo kidding,, they need to be more creative then that.. I swear kids are losing their creativity its all because of those video games.
Geez, this is a really terrible story. Apparently two young boys, ages 6 and 7, played a very long session of GTA (4 I think), and afterwards 'stoned' the family kitten to death and hung it from a tree in the backyard with a controller cable. It's a pretty gross story, but I see two things to blame:
1. The Parents weren't home, so IMO weren't good parents, and
2. Why were such young kids allowed to play a game as violent as GTA?

Leaving the kids home alone to begin with was a bad idea.
I don't care about the cat to be honest. You have to remember, it's a different species. Our general goal is to survive as a species, never putting other creatures before us. But violent tendencies like those displayed grow, and may translate into violence against humans. The kids should be killed. Preservation of the race my friends. zombiefruit
That's one of the stupidest things I've heard. Species evolve based on 'interdependence,' not individualism. It has been proven in the evolution of bacteria andmulticellular organisms both.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18048332
Also, I think humans are different than other creatures. I'm not a religious person, but humans can do such things as appreciate art and philosophize, whereas other species cannot. We are a unique species, and people can learn from their mistakes. Just because someone hurts someone else does not mean that they should be killed. Who's going to kill them? THe government? A group of backwoods libertarian rednecks? I don't think so.

One of the basic rules of statistics is that correlation=/=causation
For example, statistics have proven that crime rates in new york are correlated to when the Gangâ inondate (couldnt find the proper term, sorry, Im not English). Does that mean that the Gangâ causes or even influences the crime rates in New york? Nope, because there's a third factor influencing both of them, so it looks like they are related when they just are not. That third factor is the season, in summer, crime rates go u, and the river flood.

How could GTA 4 directly influence them to kill kittens? Can you kill kittens in GTA 4?But... But.....
I played GTA3 when I was like 8 and ......
the poor little.....
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT YOU SICk SACAPUNTAS (Thats a very bad spanish word BTW, look it up)
Icant believe someone would destroy a perfectly good controller!!!!! They cost a lot of money you know!
But how did they get all of the weed to stone the cat in the first place?
OH! you mean..... real rocks?.....oops
Joking aside, how did they get the kitty stoning idea from a GTA? I think i missed GTA: CATSTONERS!
I have several issues with that story:
1. Aren't next-gen consoles wireless? Im a PC gamer, so I'm a shade behind w/ consoles, but the ones I've seen for sale are all wireless. Following that train of thought, what controller wire were they really using?
2. Did the investigators actually check the house to see if the family had GTA IV?
3. The story itself just says "Grand Theft Auto" (and says the cable was from the game tself, not the console). How did it suddenly become GTA IV?
Don't get me wrong: I'm totally against animal mutilation (we have a cat), and those kids need serious help (violence against animals is an indicator of deeper issues, and is used to predict whether a child will grow up to be a serial killer). However, the "GTA angle" just seems slapped on.

Well you see, thats actually the POINT of the GTA series, you see mankind was oing down the drain, and we didnt know why
So R* saw this and knew that we needed some kind of scapegoat, and so they created the GTA series! and now when something goes wrong, we can all just say"IT WAS THOSE EVIL GTA GAMES!!!OMGWTFBBQROFLOL!!!!" instead of facing the facts.
Becuase it was youre fault parents....... you failed.......
and thats why youre kids did that, thats right, you FAILED!!!!!!
but thank god gta was there! Because now you dont have to face the fact that you made youre kids serial killers, becuase we all know how serial killers start!

GTA isn't the issue. When I was freaking 5 years old, my dad rented all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies that were out at the time, and we both sat there and laughed at dumbass teenagers getting mercilessly slaughtered by the ghost of a dead child murderer/child rapist. And guess what? I never tortured or murdered an animal for fun.
Parents may be more of an issue, but it's not so much an issue of the parents not being HOME. You think that the kids couldn't have killed the cat while the parents were home? It doesn't take much time to strangle a cat. Mom's in the kitchen baking cookies and she lets Little Timmy out to play in the backyard. Bam, two minutes later she looks out the window and sees a strangled cat hanging from a tree. If the parents are the problem, the problem would have been a failure to teach the kids to respect life. Though...to be fair, parents SHOULDN'T leave 6 and 7 year old kids alone at home. But even though that is a problem, I don't think that that's a problem that is particularly relevant to the dead cat.
It's not like torturing cats is a new thing. You sure as HELL can't blame this on GTA. It's common practice for children to light firecrackers and then stick them into cats' butts before they explode. People have been doing this kind of **** for a LONG time, LONG before videogames ever even existed. And that's one of the MILDER things that I've heard that people do to cats, and I'm not even going to elaborate on the REALLY bad stuff. If anything, I think that GTA probably REDUCES cat tortures. Because now, when kids get the urge to torture and kill, they can get their fix of bloddlust by playing videogames INSTEAD of going out and torturing the **** out of a cat.
The real reason is: Those kids are horrible. Don't put all the blame on the parents and violent games...zakkroYeah My mom did not want me and my brother playing violent games, but we ended up always playing them at friends houses. The kids that were not fortunate enough in or around our neighborhood to own any games at all were the the crazy ones.
from article
"The investigation began [when] deputies went to the neighborhood of one of the two boys... and found the kitten hanging by its neck from a backyard tree. The boys had apparently used a wire from the video game controller they were playing, Grand Theft Auto, to hoist up the kitten. The animal's head had been injured by blows from a rock."
The even happened in October, details are just now beginning to emerge. It doesn't say GTA4, so it could have been a PS2 or Xbox controller cord. But how did the police know what the kids were doing before doing this if it happend in October? I;m sure the kids were coerced into saying it was GTA.
what king of parents leave a 6 and 7 year old home alone?psychosurfer10The same kind who let them play a GTA game...
When I was a little kid, I accidentally killed my kitten. I'm not going to go into the details because I'm not going for shock factor here. But long story short, as a little kid, I didn't understand the physical repricussions of playing with an animal too rough. I think I was 4-5 years old at the time. The point of this story is, young kids are impressionable, and you don't let them play extremely realistically violent games, because they get little ideas in their heads, not understanding the difference between reality and fantasy.Greyfeldyou sicko!! lol, nah but i play the most violent video games ever created.. and i have only killed 4 people this month.. but seriously those kids are going to be psychopathic kilers. little bas***s
I'm not surprised. There were also other things that people did just playing after GTA.filiwianI don't get that either. You know what? I've seen a lot worse games than GTA, in terms of violence. I guess the distinction is supposed to be that you are a criminal and not like a soldier in the military or something?
The real reason is: Those kids are horrible. Don't put all the blame on the parents and violent games...zakkro
I watched almost all the Friday The 13 movies as a kid,and I never thought about torturing/killing animals or humans.

nah-ah... when you're 6 you know very well already that you don't hurt animals. I was 3 when we got our first dog, it never ever occured to me to hurt it in anyway, you just know it's wrong, even at that age. And if not, there is something seriously lacking in your upbringing, which in this case was probably true. So in that sense you're right. But still, they SHOULD have known better.TheFlush

Kids don't become horrible for no reason. You imply that they were born horrible/evil which is simply not the case.
Kids at that age are easily influenced by what's going on around them, a simplistic and rather stupid comparison would be colours, when you are very young you represent the color white, even the slightest stain is visible, you are easily colored by your surroundings. As you get older your color gets darker, and stains become less visible.
