British comedy panel shows > Everything. :P

bangell99
True. I really can't stand most sitcoms these days, but Mock the Week, QI and Have I Got News For You? always manage to get a laugh out of me.

British humour is more intelligent - Monty Python and Fawlty Towers - but I watch more American shows than British. American shows tend to be more consistently great, for me.

Same here. The only sitcoms I like at all are Peep Show and The Inbetweeners, but Mock the Week, 8 out of 10 Cats, QI, Argumental and HIGNFY are always brilliant.

A good comparison would be the British Office vs. the American Office.

I'd like to say I love the British wit and dry humour... but it's hard for me to find examples atm. I watched a a few The Office (original) episodes and tbh wasn't too impressed. I tune into the American version weekly, but realistically I should have stopped about three years back :P. I used to watch this Britcom for a while (I think they're still producing episodes) but stopped when the writing went straight downhill.

But all in all I'm more of an Arrested Development guy. It's smart and witty in its own right, I'd say.

I dont prefer either. Both have fantastic shows that I love for different reasons and both have painfully bad shows. British comedy can be more clever and subtle, but then America puts out shows like Arrested Development, and South Park that are better than most. However if I had to choose I think I prefer British, shows like Garth Marenghi's darkplace, brass eye, the day today, jam, blackadder, monty python's flying circus, spaced, peep show, fawlty towers, dad's army, steptoe and son. The Office, extras, only fools and horses, and I'm Alan Partridge are much better than anything I have seen on American TV. When it comes to films it can be a bit different, America has put out better dark comedies like Harold and maude, happiness, and american psycho. There are some great British comedy films too, so overall I would still pick British humor, I find it more interesting most of the time and I grew up on it.

The Thick of it is a great show, better than in the loop I think though I love both of them. You should watch Brass eye, it is another brilliant show.

Yeah I agree. Chris Langham was brilliant, I was gutted to see he wasn't in season 3, but Rebecca Front is good too. I'll check out Brass Eye :D

If you ask about anything comparing America to something else in OT, the something else generally wins. OT hates the US! I, however, an neutral on the subject. I'm obsessed with the US version of The Office right now. They took a great idea for the show from Britian, but in my opinion made it better. Monty Python is legendary, however.

I prefer to use British humour than American humour in real life, so I have a slight preference on the former over the latter.

Anything after Seinfeld: British. biggest_loser

I hope you haven't seen the show in my avatar/sig :(

I chose American. I don't even like Snatch or Shaun of the Dead, which are movies everyone seems to love.

I never though that the British comedies they had public television were funny. Kind of stale humor, if you get what I'm saying.

I grew up watching shows like Mr Bean , Bottom , The young ones, Only Fools and faulty towers all are exceptionally funny. However I love American shows and films the same as I love British shows and films. That 70s show , South park , The simpons, Family guy , My wife and kids and Fresh prince of bel air all have made me laugh. Even childrens shows i enjoyed like spongebob when I was younger have made me laugh.

At the end of the day both are equal to me.
