I plan on using it for my ipod and computer too. I can't afford to go $400 combined btw. Also would it be a waste of money to buy speakers for my computer if I got expensive headphones+portable amp?

^Yep, the Audio / Video Discussion Forums here, and then sites like Head-Fi are really good. OT has some knowledgeable people on it too (I'unno if the thread will be locked because of the audio / video forums or not?)

I've got Sennheiser HD 25-1 ii's and I really like them. Got them for around $200 Canadian last year, but the prices seem cheaper for the US.
I use them for music while on the bus and walking home, music from a laptop and desktop, and for games on a desktop computer.
They're not over-ear headphones though.

I don't have an amp but have been thinking about getting a soundcard and amp...

A user recommended me sennheisser roughly 6 months ago, and I've never looked back. I hate when I'm forced to use crappy little earbuds because I don't have the room to carry my good headphones

Whenever it's raining on the way home I put my headphones into my bag. :C

I keep thinking of getting "backup" earbuds, but getting decent ones means paying money that I probably shouldn't be spending right now. 'specially for something that is "backup" :P

I'm usually on the way to work when by bag is full, that's about the only time I use the 'buds. They were just the same $12 pair I had before I picked up my HD 408s for about $80 (regular was like, $150 at the time)

Ah. I usually have room in my school bag for them. I've chose to go and buy a lunch instead of bringing a sammish just because with everything, headphones, and a sandwish case, it feels too full.. and I want to have the headphones more.

Sennheiser HD 25-1, or Audio Technica ESW9 would be good choices. I don't think you would need an amp for either of those since they're intended to be portable. I think instead of getting an amp, getting a pair of the headphones I mentioned+ a decent pair of PC speakers would be your best option. While a headphone may have better clarity and tighter bass and so on than a cheaper pair of speakers, there's something about a room being filled with sound that a headphone can't really touch
