So rioting has officially begun in Vancouver. The safest place to be right now is with Luongo- Anything thrown at him is gonna go right byTetrarch9You know, I think he's going to be a huge scapegoat. The guy played alright tonight, better than most other Canuck players, but because Thomas played so well all series long, and because Luongo was really inconsistent, he's going to get the brunt of the blame. I mean, I don't know many goalies, historically, who would have had that first goal. He was perfectly screened and Bergeron scored on a shot seemingly meant for someone else. Tough to see that one coming. The second goal was a tiny bit soft, but Ehrhoff went far too wide IIRC and went out of position, opening up a huge scoring lane. The third goal was all Ehrhoff's doing. No matter what Luongo did, that puck was going in if Ehrhoff couldn't re-direct its path. And he didn't.
Ironically, percentage-wise the Boston Bruins are actually a more Canadian team than the Canucks.
So Canadians really should have been cheering for the Boston Bruins, the real Canadian team in the finals. :P

I was cheering for Boston, but only because I wanted Vancouver to lose. As an Oilers fan, the thought of Calgary or Vancouver winning makes me ill.

I'm increasingly happy to see so much love for the Oil in this thread :)[QUOTE="Tetrarch9"]So rioting has officially begun in Vancouver. Yeah, Luongo isn't nearly as horrible as the fans over at the Canucks message board are making him out to be. But then, neither is he as good as they were making him out to be when they first signed him. He's just a solid goalie - capable of big saves from time to time - playing for a stacked team, and that stacked team gave him the illusion of greatness. But when the stacked team doesn't perform, he's exposed for what he is.
My favourite moment from the game tonight was the goal resulting from the stantion. Poetic justice for the previous series.

It's hard to be the fan of such an awful team. But at least when your rivals get embarrassed, it makes things a bit easier to swallow. :P
Now I'm curious to see who they draft this time around.
The rioting is still going on. It's all freakin' kids no younger than mid-20's going to downtown looking for some action.F1_2004
You had to know it was going to happen. I think many of those people were intent on rioting whether or not the Canucks won the cup. Never understood the appeal of breaking other people's stuff for fun, personally.

I too would like to know this.
I am BTW. (If anyone cares.)

Give them a few years. They'll making the playoffs regularly. Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall, they're just starting. Its a rebuilding process. Give it time, it will show up yet.Give them a few years. Oh, I know. Thanks to the drafting system, the NHL is like the stock markets. Cycles. No team stays down and out forever. It may be a long, long time if you have subpar scouting or a bone-headed GM, but never forever. Some people may forget just how bad Chicago and Pittsburgh were not too long ago.
I'll take the consistency of Tim Thomas over the sporadicity of Luongo.dodgerblue13Amen brother. Timmeh all the way. no one deserves it more.

As a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, it made me sick and disappointed to see Boston win the Stanley Cup. However, they played to win and it was evident. I think Tim Thomas is the only player on the Bruins team I like :PYeah, it's city/regional pride, not the country. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any rivalry between Canadian teams, right? Slightly off topic, I am slightly worried for the small sect of good leaf fans. I'm not confident Brian Burke will be able to pull off his halfhearted rebuild. Coach Wilson is atrocious and their coaching has killed the confidence of a few goalies already(I expect Reimer to eventually collapse under the ludicrous standards many Leaf fans hold goalies to). That said, having grown up in leaf territory, I am kind of ok with the Leafs losing, even if it won't keep the idiots quiet about their legacy of historical "cup wins". Though it is a waste to have such a rabid fanbase, and not build a proper team for such a city. :(LockedgeWell, anyone that comes to Toronto to play is expected to be able to handle the microscope that they will be under. I am only 18, but looking into the past of the Leafs it is a shame that the likes of Sittler and Salming's names aren't on the trophy. I bawled my eyes out in 2002 when they almost made it into the finals, and then Philadelphia ruined our last chance pre-lockout in 2004. :c
And as one rabid Leafs fan, I am sick of not seeing them in the playoffs, it just isn't right to have the ACC not go bonkers during the spring. We had a bit of a playoff atmosphere at the end of the season before the Leafs bowed out in game 80 of 82, but I am sick of this, and I know that there are many others that have been waiting to see them bring it all back for a much longer time than me.
(sorry for hijack)

The weird thing is, goalies are handled so poorly in Toronto. Even though Toronto hasn't had a great goalie in decades, they still compare all goalies to their nostalgia-skewed memories of Cujo and Potvin(back when the team had a rock solid defense core and coaching style). I mean, Toronto chases out and breaks goalies, period. Defensemen and Forwards, in comparison, get huge breaks. I mean, I saw what happened to Toskala in Toronto. That guy was great for San Jose, behind a poor-to-average defense. Then he went to Toronto and played really well his first season, despite having no help. Then, in his second season, coaching decisions and media pressure and an abysmal defense performance crippled his ability to play. He was all over the place trying to cover all angles and lanes due to not trusting his D. He eventually imploded and hasn't been the same since. I fear for Reimer, because if he can't handle the stupid coaching decisions and the ludicrous media pressure, he'll break too and Toronto will be back at square one. It would be interesting to see Toronto in the playoffs again, even if it meant I'd hear loads of idiots who who say light crap like "Cups coming home to Toronto, this is the year!", and absolutely illogical team slams where for some reason my Sharks are inferior to the Leafs because of the number of cups they've won(or lack thereof). I mean, it's not like the Maple Leafs have won anything in the modern era either. *shrug* Beh, don't mind me, I'm just griping. Grew up with a family of leaf fans, in a town of leaf fans, I just have a history of being annoyed with the idiocy of many of them. Luckily, you're young, which probably means you're more reasonable. I WOULD like Edmonton to win a cup before Toronto does though. If Toronto were to break the "Great Canadian Cup Drought", I think I'd weep blood from the amount of annoyance I'd have to go through. XDLockedgeThis is why I felt for Gustavsson this season. I still clearly remember their game against the Canadiens in November where he was playing sensational, and yet the defense wasn't helping him out at all. I am a pretty hardcore Leafs fan, but I don't care for championships that were won way back when - when there hasn't even been much to celebrate. Also, I remember in grade 8 in 2006 being the laughing stock of my cIass when I picked Edmonton to beat the Red Wings in the first round. 6 games later, they are crying.
