If I were a man in my early 20s, I would love a commercial that threatened that a man with an "oversized plastic head and creepy smile" would pop up in bed next to me. I personally miss the BK kids. Bring them back, with their rocket powered wheelchairs and cool hats and diverse ethnic grouping of friends.XilePrincessAlmost sounds like Captain Planet. But no.. I remember those kids. One was like a goofy version of the nerdy nintendo power kid. ...I think.
Not a surprise. McDonalds started the trend of making fast food more adult/classy. Supposedly BK is trying to go the sam way.

is that a joke? when I go to mcdonalds I see a giant playground with kids running around screaming "HURRRRRRRR" and there is a clown on a bench you can sit next to. More adult? WRONG!

Mcdonalds is not classy, or even close to classy food or well anything.

What's with all the King hate? D': He's definitely better than that clown.Mega-MustaineOh, I would be even happier if this thread were about him, instead. Fortunately I haven't seen him in quite a while. :P

This thread is making me want to play the Sneak King game.
You will be missed my leash.HakarieI never saw the King wearing a leash - that sounds a bit too kinky even for BK.:P:lol:
Thank god me and my mom always thought he was creepy and why doesn't Mcdonalds get rid of the clown while they are at it I mean hes creeper then the king.
I wonder what will be burger kings there new mascot ?
Awww...I loved the King...he was so creepy and his expression never changed...that's what madeit so funny...

Problem is, the good King commercials are now YEARS old. And the whole reason why he was so popular is BECAUSE he was so creepy. But see, it was an unexpected kind of creepy, as in, "Holy ****, I can't believe anyone thought that that creepy-ass guy would be a good mascot to promote their product."
So it was creepy. And it didn't really seem to make much sense. Which made The King funny. And that made the King extremely popular.
Here's the problem. That was a LONG time ago. And by now, the shock value has worn off. He's not funnyt anymore, he's not creepy anymore, he's just a boring mascot who's been around for too long. It's sort of like how Marilyn Manson was edgy and shocking and maybe even "cool" at one point. But after too much time as a mainstream celebrity, eventually people just got bored with him.
The King is sort of the same way. Yes, he absolutely WAS cool. But he's been around so long that he no longer has the impact that he once had. He WAS cool, but he's not cool now. So...I honestly think that it's a good idea to just let him die with whatever dignity he still has. Burger King can come up with a new mascot who is edgy and creepy, but The King is finished. He was a magnificent mascot for a while, but the world has moved on and The King has failed to stay relevant. Sad as it may be, it's time to let him go.

Whoosh. The McD haters are so eager to hate they are missing the point!I am still confused as to why fast food companies need mascots. It's not like eating there makes you part of the team. And you rarely see any kind of merchandise come from them. Just seemed like a waste of time.
Food mascots are a relic from a bygone era, really. I think there was an article in this in TIME, but apparently they just don't have that much impact anymore, and began to see their usefulness die out by the time the 2000s rolled around. I don't know why or how, but that's just how it is.I am still confused as to why fast food companies need mascots. It's not like eating there makes you part of the team.
