I'm buying an iMac. My wife gets a teacher discount at the Apple store, plus a free wireless printer if bought through Apple. Can anyone direct me toward any better deals?
Is it advisable to get the customer care support?

If you have even the slightest interest in gaming, then why would you buy a macintosh? Sigh. Anyway, theres a Mac-version of SC2.Not interested in a PC. Thanks to those who answered the questions asked. Looks like the Apple store is the way to go.
How is the library of games on the MAC? The App Store looks really good. Quite a few big name games. Are there any real-time tactical games?

Gaming choices are poor, though they are getting full Valve & Blizzard(starcraft 2)support now.
You can still run bootcamp though for your gaming needs, just install old windows software
And you won't find any better deals, unless you wait till summer and go for a university student bonus(free ipod before)
App Store and Steam are the best places to get games...really the only places. Not interested in a PC. Thanks to those who answered the questions asked. Looks like the Apple store is the way to go.

[QUOTE="spazzx625"]You won't find any better deals. Think of AppleCare like insurance, just like any extended warranty. It's cheaper than getting it fixed but there's no guarantee you will ever need it. I haven't on any of my Macs but I've gotten it on most of them.AllicrombieYou use macs? O.O WHY SPAZZ WHY?! *over dramatic*I think I remember a time when you weren't a Mod on here. I feel old now. Thanks alot.

lol Apple care is for morons, it's like getting a protection plan from Best Buy, it's a 500% profit for the company. Never get that stupid stuff. And if you have even the remotest need to want to play games than stop being an idiot and get a PC. ferrari2001Hmm you must not have done a lot of repairs on iMac's before. Once the logicboard goes in that the machine is done for and if you don't have Apple Care, good luck on finding a decent logicboard price for that particular model of iMac. At that point your already a 3rd of the way there on the cost you might as well just get another one.

If you get a PC, you can fix the damn thing yourself and save a ton of money.
If you are interested in purchasing a Mac, I can only assume that you are accustomed to shredding money b/c it's fun. Likewise, do not search for a better deal and buy the idiot insurance.

To an extent you can if you build yourself but even Dell and HP have their proprietary hardware that come from Intel, Foxconn etc etc so even then you are still going to have to get a warranty piece from them. It's 300 bucks which is the cost of a GPU or a good motherboard or whatever. Most of the time you won't use it but once something does happen you will be less stressed because they will send a replacement no questions asked where as most of companies make you fill crap out or jump through hoops.
I've dealt both with Apple, Dell and HP where I used to work and I hated dealing with HP, Dell was so so and Apple was great and just asked you about 5 questions got your address and sent the part out.

lol, you don't have to buy a part from HP or dell to fix em. Just order off Newegg, get the part and fix it yourself. Never in my life have I had to order a part from the company when you can just as easily get general parts to work instead. Now apple, they have created themselves a little monopoly. If they only way you can fix the device is send it in to them, than that's all the reason I need to never, never, never, ever purchase from them.Buy a PC instead.Lonelynighti honestly cant believe this wasnt the first reply. you were 2 minutes late :(
Pretty decent thanks to Steam. I'm downloading Psychonauts now. (^_^)Not interested in a PC. Thanks to those who answered the questions asked. Looks like the Apple store is the way to go.

The Apple Store is it. Buying anywhere else will only increase the chance for a markup.

Why forced? Upgrades each year are really small and there hasn't been in a redesign in years. It'll be outdated in a year and you will be forced to upgrade.

I hear it runs like crap, 'least at BlizzCon Blizz said it was a feature of SC to overheat Macs :D[QUOTE="Nuck81"]I bought my Mac straight from Apple with the Educators Discount. I also got AppleCare as well. I ended up buying the 2.8 Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro. My Mac is 27 months old now, the Battery is at 92% health, and I have never had a single problem. It was more computer than I actually needed, I could have gotten away with a regular Macbook, or even an Air, but I don't regret my purchase. The backlit keyboard is worth $1,000 itself imo... You're an idiot, sorry... I have a Dell with a backlit keyboard. OOOH BIG NEW MAC FEATURE, oh... yea.Not interested in a PC. Thanks to those who answered the questions asked.
