Is it really that hard to do some research for yourself? I mean, everyone is doing the work for you, which doesn't take too much effort. Not to mention you say this is three years away. Chill out for a minute. You're a little ahead of yourself.

i have done alot of research myself! but i want PEOPLES opinions and suggestions on the different places in the US, not facts from wikipedia or whatever. besides, its really hard to fint pictures on the net. all i find is the citys homepage, and theres nothing interesting there!

so yeah, dont think i´m a lazy bastard, ive spent hours and hours reading about the different states and cities in america. sure, i´m ahead of myself. but i just need to be prepared! its gonna take a long time finding out where i´m gonna spend a year of my life, and i dont want to make a bad choice!

so if you were to recommend a small/medium sized city right outside of, or around L.A, what would it be?

sorry, I haven't been there in at least 5 years so I wouldn't know the distances between major cities. What do you consider fun? If you explain to us what you do for fun, we could help more with choosing a state.

So after all of your 'research' the best you could come up with is cliche L.A.? Again, it's not all glitzy like what you see in the media. Not to mention it's not the greatest example of culture. It really sounds to me like all you want to do is go to the beach and party. Dont waste your time.

i would reccommend a suburb within LA. You can still live in LA, yet you are in a suburb where there are lower crime rates and more family-oriented environments. The only real states which I could base a good opinion on are Minnesota, Washington, and Missouri.

Well, Minnesota and Washington are about equal for me, with Missouri trailing far behind. For your interests, just about every state would work for partying (especially California). Minnesota's great. There are lots of friendly people and there are a couple large cities that you can have fun in, but at your age it would be limited, though without a doubt it is the safest state. Washington is a great state also, Seattle is a large city with a great music scene and lots of great snowboarding and ocean activities. What are some other interests of yours? Snowboarding, skateboarding, anything like that?

well, though i live in snowy norway, i´m not too keen on skiing etc.. in fact, i usually skip school when we are going skiing. i hate it that much :P ive done snowboarding twice in my life.. and i actually loved it, though i cant see myself doing it alot! and i have never really tried rollerblading or skateboarding.. im guessing california is the best state for that! skating along the beaches etc.. must be lovely!

i kind of know what cali is like.. i know its not exactly like in the movies etc.. ive been there, you know. but still.. movies like Superbad makes me wanna go back so bad :P meh

Summerville, South Carolina, nice warm weather, not sure how close to the beaches it is, but if it is close you'll get some good beach parties in too

northern california is much like Washington and Oregon, and it is a lot more "wilderness-y" than southern california. It would be a decent drive from LA to get to some good snow but, they have some of the world's best.

Mammoth Mountain - one of the most famous mountains in all of snowboarding.

Bear Mountain - supposedly the best/biggest park in the USA

Sure these mountains probably don't live up to the mountains in Norway, but they're decent

ok, cool. are there any big cities up there? i know san francisco is pretty close, right? perhaps its in "mid-cali". idk.

but its not really that important.. id rather have a really hot place than a cold one. i get enough snow here.. sigh.

i think i want to live somewhere between santa barbara and L.A. or maybe on the boarder to Nevada? Would be cool to be able to go with friends to las vegas in the weekends etc! though ill only be 17.. :S

You should be asking these questions on city-data.com, they actually know what they are talking about and can give you genuinely good honest advice and not the OMG CALI IS AWESOME FLORDA OHIO SUKZ responses that you will find here.

Go to Florida or South Carolina, better weather than Minnesota or Ohio and neither of them is known for having violence problems.

Plus in the South, people tend to be as courteous as possible.

California is a wasteland of humanity and the universal center of of narcissism and vanity. Stay away from it.ProudLarry

i dont even need to show you pictures to tell you how horribly wrong and misguided you are. As for your marcissistic and vain comment, I'm sure no other states have those kinda people >____>
