Hi OT, I have been thinking about buying a new guitar for a while now. I have a pretty good feeling about this one, it is in my price range. My only complaint is it don't have normal inlays and is all black. I would probably buy a white pick guard and install it on there myself. But sadly the price for a more "cheery" version of this guitar is a full hundred dollars more. And that would blow the budget Im trying to keep. Here's the link

It's a Gibson, so you know it HAS to be good. If there is an instrument shop nearby, pay a visit and test out the guitars there. It's best to use one with your own hands then buying one off a guess.

First of all: It's a cheap Epiphone. You get what you pay for. Why not get this for the same price and get a better tone and an overall better deal? :?

No. To begin with, it's a lower-end Epiphone. Even though Gibson owns Epiphone, Gibson makes their instruments with quality and in the USA. Epiphones are cheaper because 1. They don't sound as good at all, and 2. They're cheaply made imports from Korea, China, and other countries. Why not get a PRS or an Ibanez for the same price and get a better instrument? :?

Are you looking to play Metal? If so, go with ESP(aka LTD)... they're often equipped with EMG pickups which give you a heavy tone that just leaves stock humbuckers in the dust IMO. Even the cheaper models without the EMG's look and sound good. There's a reason why most of the good metal bands these days use ESP guitars... it's because they own.

http://www.espguitars.com/guitars.html

Take a look. I'm not a huge fan of Epiphone, btw.

Agreed here, ESP are great for metal bands just starting out. They're pretty much the best you can get for the price. I use a 6-string Schecter bass equipped with EMG's and the sound is great, but I hear their guitar models are hit or miss so I dunno. Maybe worth a look...

This may seem a bit off-topic, but do you plan to make a video once you get the guitar? I'd love to see the unboxing. :P

I already have 2 ibanez guitars. But I trust epiphone beacuse I have a Epiphone LP Jr. their bottom of the line guitar and its actually very decent. Plays nice and its actually one of my favorite guitars. And I only paid 60 bucks for it at a pawn shop :)

All sorts of metal. From Iron Maiden to Dethklok and Children of Bodom. But after looking at the fine print on that Ibanez, im not suprised to see that it has the exact same pickups that are in my Ibanez RG 120, that I only paid 200 dollars for brand new. You see Ibanez is kind of a crappy company because they put the same pickups in cheap guitars, as they do with their more expensive guitars. Your only paying an extra 200 dollars for a Edge 3 tremolo and a middle pickup. Since I change my tuning often any type of locking trem would be more of a hassle than anything. I use Grover machine heads and they keep my guitars in tune quite well.

I already own a LTD F50. But I have played plenty of LTD guitars. Pretty much any guitar you throw EMG's into is gonna sound good. Unless its made out of really low quality wood. I may look into buying a LTD EX guitar, since Explorer style guitars are my favorite. I have never owned an Explorer before and they truly are my dream guitars :)

Well I planed on throwing a GFX rail pickup that you can buy at www.guitarfetish.com. I have a friend who swears by that website. And I have played one of his guitars with the Rail pickup installed and it sounded great. Plus Rail pickups are sexy. And then i wanna figure a way to put a Gibson Mini Humbucker in the neck. Its gonan be an odd combination, but I like unique setups like that.

Well thats a sweet insturment! If you really wanna learn how to play, there's plenty of starter acoustic guitars on sweetwater and musiciansfriend.com. A decent Indiana guitar is around 80 bucks. I really like the Indiana Scout Acoustic guitars.

I strongly dislike those types of guitars.. They are so awkward, and some cases impossible to play whilst sitting down because of their weird shape, and they almost never have a good tone to them the strings are really really super close to the neck which is good for playing really fast music but not much else. So if you want to play something other than metal I would search else where

Yeah for sure, i always try to encourage those who are interested in guitars to at least give it a try. Its a wonderful hobby and you can spend the rest of your life loving what you do. Thats what I'll be doing and i have no reservations about it. I love what I do.

I always thought an Explorer guitar would be pretty comfortable guitar to play. Also I can play with the guitar on my right leg or between my legs. I have never played a more uncomfortable guitar than my Jackson JS30 King V. Honestly I hate that guitar.

Yeah, i really like the mini humbuckers. And for the prices on this website how could you go wrong? I mean if the pickup sucks your only out 30 bucks or so. And since I can wire my own guitar it saves me lots of money in labor cost. http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Crunchy-Rails-Our-Hottest-Modern-Metal-Power-Black-Bridge-Pickup_p_303.html These are some fine pickups right here.

With Gibson, you often pay for the name. The Epiphone Dot, for example, retails for $400. The Gibson ES 335 retails for $2,000-3,000. I've played both and the Gibson, while made with better equipment and featuring a better sound, does not justify being at least five times more expensive at all.

Nice woods and hardware on the guitar for the money. I'd go to a Guitar Center if you have one in your area and order it from there. They are affiliated with Musicians Friend. Then I'd test it. I don't order guitars through mail order. You might get one that's not built right.

Guitars are one of those things you get what you pay for. So I'd save up a bit now and get one of the "cheerier" Explorers. I love the natural wood finish version.

No way you can decide if you can't try the product before buying it.
