Can lasers slice through us humans?

Yesterday, I watched Resident Evil (the first one), and thought it was remotely awesome. I think the best part of the movie is the laser beam scene, where all the soldiers inside that chamber are killed. Now, the way that blue laser beam cuts through them is highly unrealistic, according to my eyes. I wonder if there are real lasers IRL that can do that, and where could you purchase these? Theoretically, yes. But we do not have any lasers powerful enough yet, I think. We do have some strong enough to badly burn someone, but slice and dice them? Thats a little off for now.

I've seen vids of lasers in the US army that can shoot down missiles...

Yes, you can buy lasers online that can cut through stuff. They aren't powerful enough to slice you like a light saber though, it's more like trying to cut someone in half with sandpaper.guynamedbilly

I seen a Youtube vid showing you how to make a handheld laser that can set things on fire.

Not sure if you can buy a high-power enough laser to cut through human though

You can carry lasers that start stuff on fire, pop ballons, and light up clouds. Its really cool.

As others have said, there are lasers that are being used to cut through metal. I imagine they could cut through you.

I'm guessing it would be possible, since they often use lasers to cut through some of the toughest materials out there. They might have to build a special kind to do it, though.

Hey thats that one movie that the guy with the glasses reviewed! :P

They won't cut neatly like they do in movies. They'd cauterize and burn through people, instead of neatly disposing of them. It's pretty gruesome :cry:auron_16

A laser with enough energy behind it can cut off a limb, yes. However, if you want an "instant" disembodiment, your laser would have to have such a high wattage that more likely than not, getting hit by one wouldn't just hack your flesh up; it'd make all the blood around the wound heat up to the point of vaporization, making your limb explode rather messily and flinging boiled flesh everywhere. It wouldn't be like the Star Wars movies at all where the worst you get is a cauterized stump.

i wanna try it one day. not with a real human, just a dummy very similar to a human

are there lasers that can cut through people yes.(I know some people are dense, but they can't be more dense than steel).
