http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/game-makers-strike-back-at-used-game-market/1390305

Personally, this is another example of why i think Video Games will die. I mean that doesn seem right people should if you buy a used game, you wont have access to the full feature set such as online. I mean thats like if i buy a Used Nissan, i have to pay Nissan extra to drive it.

Oncea game is sold to the costomer, its there's and its there right to resell it if they choose. People cant blame Gamestop. And Publishers dont deserve no money from used game sells.

By that logic, if i sell a game to my cousin/freinds, i must give 20% to the makers of the games.

Anyway, do think there can be a legal case here? I mean, i can imagine a misinform customer who buys Socom 3(PSP) used but later finds out he has to pay $20 extra to play online.

Well...that sucks. What about us that are in school and can't afford to buy every single $60 game they make. I think that Gamestop and the others should give like a small precentage of all used games sales to each of the developers annually. That should shut them up.

You have to be insane to buy used games from Gamstop anyway. They sell them for essentially the same price of the new version.

Sounds fine to me. And your analogy is awful. If you buy a used car, you do have to pay extra, considering it probably won't be under warranty and you'll be fronting all the maintenance costs. If you buy a used game, why shouldn't you have to pay extra for goodies that everyone else paid full price for?

But then I'd lose the smug sense of satisfaction I get from buying games from developers I hate without actually paying them. Not to mention that 98% of the games I bought were from used stores...

What you are saying is the car maker can lock your car to 50MPH when second hand until you pay extra?

I covered the problem with the car analogy with the warranty explanation.

If that purchase og GTA 4 was fairly recent, you got ripped off. I've seen it at the local shops for 15, not to mention the local shops also resurface the disc upon purchase.

Do research on the games you wish to buy and utilise price comparison websites. I never buy used but get by fairly well.

They already started doing this, as the article points out, with ME2 and SOCOM. ME2 was particularly insidious since they tried to hide what they were doing as a "gift" to people who bought the game new. In reality it's obvious that much of the content you download via that card code was stuff that was removed from the game specifically to spit in used game buyers' faces. For example, that extra character you can download has his own quarter of the ship and a TON of dialogue. Furthermore, he's one of the more active members in your party when it comes to commenting on conversations with NPCs. He also has missions attached to him, relationships with other NPCs, etc. It's obvious that he wasn't just thrown in as a "thank you" present for buying the game new, but rather taken out to stick it to people who buy used.

I orginally bought GTA 4 used for $37 back in Aug 2008(got PS3 days earlier). Since i didn't like it i got full refund. Decided to re buy to see how the online mode was and much of my surprise Gamestop drop the price again and that time $27 is what i paid.

I covered the problem with the car analogy with the warranty explanation.

So this means I should have warranty with my games right? I am just trying to make a good connection with the two because I am sure TP is not complaining the same thing as you implied.

i should of use a better analogy, but his warranty explanation is odd. So Car Manufactures are still tied to used car dealers? I mean when u buy a used game system, GS provides the waranty
