At school it isn't. Any form of weapon can get you in trouble at school. They have re-vamped punishment because of Columbine. When I was in grade 9, a girl I knew got suspended for bringing a B.B gun to school.

Your state laws probably say handguns are legal, too, but schools don't appreciate those too much. You'll get expelled immediately and probably face charges.

It is also important for me to note that a student's rights in school are severely reduced while in school. You know how out in the streets a police officer needs a warrant to check a trunk of a car or anything else that is locked? You've noticed that a principal or teacher can just ask to check your locker or backpack in school and if you don't comply you can be arrested. They don't even have to tell you about it, they can just check it. You have noticed this, right? This is the same reason why you can carry a knife (or stun gun) in the streets but not in school.
