I know some places allow that, however, you have to pay more for it. My ex bf had his own private dorm so i KNOW some places do that.

Probably could, but you'd end up having to pay for twice the ammount as before.

Just tell the housing authorities that you have leprosy.  No way they will room you with anyone else.  Works like a charm.

Yea, if you get an apartment, where its located could be an issue. Like...how far away from campus is it. o_o Depending on where your at if you have to walk or ride a bus can be a big factor. Take Superior, Wisconsin for an example. It gets really really really cold up there. Wouldnt want to have to walk too far in that, or wait for a bus...or ride a freakin cold bus x_x. OR...snow can suck too. If your right on campus in a dorm, that greatly reduces the problem as you shouldnt have to walk too far to classes or chow hall

I use to share a dorm with a roomate my freshmen year in college. Roomates were very cool to live with. No problems whatsoever. But, I prefered living alone, and I lived in a single dorm. It's more expensive, but the privacy is nice. You still won't escape the noisy neighboors and unsanitary bathrooms. I commute now. :P

I want my own dorm for lots reasons, privacy being the main thing, I also have valuable things that I dont want anyone else to have access to and everyone wants their own time. I know I'll be partying and socializing plenty but when the days done and over with theres nothing better for me than kicking it and having some nice alone time doing things the way I want.

Most schools require you live in certified housing freshman year, meaning you have to live in a dorm for at least a semester. I think single rooms cost at least 1 grand more than a double, so...

Most rooms (at least in many English Uni's) are for one person.

If they have enough space, yes, you may get your own room if you request it.  But if there's an extra person with no room to spare, he'll get moved in with you.

No, they usually like to have 2 people in there. Mainly because they don't want you to masturbate and ruin the carpet, so the other person is supposed to ward off that kind of behavior.

for an incoming freshman it's very doubtful you'll be able to get a single (what 1 person rooms are called on most campuses).  Most of the time the demand for these types of rooms are fairly high, and freshman tend to get left overs.  At my college they'd always over book the first semester and some freshman would have to live in study rooms and student lounges.

I suggest you become a heavy sleeper cause even if your roomates quite there's always a good chance you'll have loud neighbors.  As for theft it's really a crap shoot, and doesn't really matter if you have a roomate or not.  I suggest not taking anything small and valuable since these are what is stolen the most on college campuses.  Ipods, laptops, jewlery, and such should be out of view.  Larger items like TVs, stereos, and such rarely get taken.  Ask your insurance agent what items will be covered for theft while you are away at school.

my freshman year i was in a triple, and one of my roommates suspected my other roommate of using his computer to batch to. one night he set up his video camera on top of his dresser facing the computer covered with some clothes while we went out and left the thing recording for like 3 hours. lets just say his suspicions were justified...

He should have busted in the room with a bunch of people included a few women just to scare him.

it probably depends on the schoo. here, each floor had 1-2 singles, so obviously it's harder to get one and probably more expensive. but my roommate was chill as hell so i was glad i wasn't in a single.

Most colleges do have single dorms but I can't speak for every college. Just some advice, though, I wouldn't take a single because it's harder to meet people that way and make new friends.
