Yep, my old school had a software called "Typing Master"... I think. I took all the lessons and I've memorized the positions of all keys... but I still look down a lot cause I feel that's faster and more accurate
PS. Just memorizing the positions still made me write like twice as fast as I used to...

Most of the time I do tend to look at the keys a little bit, but I can type fine without looking at the keyboard aswell.

I'm typing this without looking right now :P

Yes. And I owe it all to this woman:

So thanks to you, Mavis Beacon, for this most utterly useless of skills.

jimmyjammer69

Useless? You can now write your assignments while watching pr0n. What more could you have asked of Mavis Beacon?

Good point

But it's been 2 years since I was at university, so combining typing and sexyvids seems a bit pointless now.

I type without looking at the keyboard in a speed of 500 letters per minute. I did a typing test online to find out my speed, by the way.

I can, but I don't do it too often. I tend to look at the keyboard but still type pretty fast.

I was under the impression that everyone here could... I've been able to type without looking at the keyboard since fifth grade due to RuneScape and ToonTown. Looking at the keyboard at all when I type just seems weird to me now...

Our school required us to have typing classes for 2 years.

I rarely ever look at the keys when I type, unless it's when I put in a password.

Yes, except for commas and what not. When I make a mistake I need to look down to find the backspace.

Yes, I can, and it's primarily how I type. If I make a mistake I can usually feel the misplacement of my fingers, and/or I can see the mistake being made and so I can go back and correct. However, I don't make many mistakes regardless of whether or not I look at my fingers when I type.

I can't. I have to look down every couple words to make sure I'm on the right row. I guess everyone on here used typing tutor programs. I had Mavis Beacon when I was younger.

Most of the time, yes. The only time when it gets hard is when someone has an oddly shaped keyboard or some of those laptop keyboards can throw me through a loop since there is really no separation between the keys. I took a keyboarding class in highschool and can keep up with most people in that respect as far as speed and correctness but follow none of the home row ruleset. I kind of just let my fingers float over the keyboard.... I guess as I let my hand rest for a second to see how I am or what "my home row is" my left hand is floating over the pinky- a ring finger- s middle finger- e index- f thumb- space bar My right hand is floating over; thumb- nothing...on the keyboard under the space bar just resting index- n middle finger- i ring finger-o pinky- "return" key So as you can see it loosely follows the whole traditional home row method but I kind of just find it a lot easier just to kind of float rather than returning your fingers to the home row after every keystroke. And oddly enough I never have any problems where I cannot really get my fingers on the right keys or becoming lost when there is no light.

Most of the time. I'm doing it now, but anything ambitious and I'll have to glance at it every now and then.

I usually look at keyboard to remember where most of the keys are at, then I type without looking at my keyboard.

No I cant. But id say I can type fairly fast regardless. Theres no situation I can think of where I NEED to be looking at the screen at the same time.

Yep but not proper touchtyping - my hands move about rather than stay on the f and j keys. Works just as well though :)

Not really I have to look at the keyboard before I start and it is quite easy to make mistakes so it takes a bit longer than looking and typing.
