Hey guys/gals,

There is a reason for this poll, though I don't really want to get into it right now.. The question is- Which of these "reasonably-priced" sports cars would you rather have for yourself? This poll has nothing to do with resale value or any factor other than what you like and what YOU would rather have. (Please note that there is no Challenger, Mustang, or Camaro in this poll since they are not actually "sports cars," they're pony cars or muscle cars.)

I was thinking about a Peugeot, the small ones for 4 passengers. I'd rather have a medium/small car.

A Vette would be nice to own but I don't see that, but I did recently purchase a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T which is awesome but not as awesome as owning a Vette.

I'm seeing alot of choices for "other." I wish we could have more than 5 choices on the polls.. like 10 would be nice. I wanted to give the Honda S2000 and a couple of other cars their own choice options.

At resonable prices running in the tens of thousands I'll put my bets on an Acura NSX. RX-7s require way too much up keep for me to consider, and expensive. Supras are rather expensive as well.

If I'm getting a car that isn't practical year-round then I'm going for a convertible for sure...So out of those choices, Corvette.

Some very interesting responses so far. No offense to the person who said "Subaru WRX," but that's not a sports-car. That's a street version of a rally car.. so is the Mitsu Evo. I didn't include Viper in the choices since they run about $85,000- $90,000 new. Corvette is at the VERY top of the price range that is at all reasonable IMO. You can get a great example of any of the choices I listed for under $30,000.

A Trans Am is not generally considered a sports car.. it's a pony car, just like the Camaro, Mustang, Challenger. Not that I have anything against them.. just saying. Cars that aren't really sports cars should not be considered in the "other" category. The "other" category should be things like Miatas, Pontiac Solstice, Acura NSX, BM3 Z3/Z4, etc...

Do you have a Burt Reynolds tattoo somewhere on your body? What's with the pushing of the Year One Bandit III? It's not even a production car. OR a sports car. It's a souped-up Burt Reynolds-mobile based on one of the most overweight pony car chasis designs ever. A production car with that much power like the Corvette ZR1, does not fall within the "reasonably-priced" category to most people.

Well for starters he and I share a birthday which I find awesome. The Pontiac Trans Am represented the ultimate muscle car from it's inception. It was made to be the best car on the street and was designed with performance in mind. The 2nd gen. (1970-1981) utilized a newly designed suspension which allowed it to corner far better than any other muscle car on the road and the addition of a 455 ci Super Duty engine made it the meanest car on the street. Year One's specialty Bandit is designed from the ground up with a lightweight frame as well as some of the largest 8 cylinder engines available. Calling it an overweight pony car is an insult, especially when it could easily out perform many production sports cars. That gives it every right to be classified as a sportscar even if the price tag is a little high, but's it's definitely not overpriced for what you recieve in even the cheapest package. It's my dream car and I do hope to own one in the future.

I like those cars. I prefer the body styIing to our American version, which is the newer GTOs. Even though they're mostly the same I like the layout of the grill more on the Monaro.

Ramrod, I'm not a person that needs a history lesson on the Trans Am. I'm a big fan of muscle cars, exotics, as well as pure sports cars. My point is that the Trans Am, no matter what version, is not a sports car. Neither is the Audi S4, which someone else listed. That's a 4-door Saloon with a nice suspension package and a powerful engine (also love those). Now, the E46 BMW M3.. that's a great car. It MIGHT be considered a borderline sports car by some, but it's still a 3-series BMW which is by definition, not a sports car, even though most BMWs do handle as well as many pure sports cars.

The M3 coupe has always been in a bit of a league of it's own, although I think the Infiniti G35/G37 coupes can be grouped in with it in most respects. Nothing drives quite like a BMW, and the interior quality is top-notch all the time (this coming from a huge Nissan fan). Also- Holden Monaro/GTO.. great cars, but NOT sports cars. They are pony/muscle cars with back seats and relatively sloppy handling compared to cars on the list.

Do explain what a "sports" car is. So far you've dismissed the S4 as if it was nothing at all, and we must all remember but previous S4's included twin turbo engines as well as V8s, and the M3 which is considered a world class sports car by most. I'd have to say that a "pony" car is a derivative of a sports car, and thus can be considered as such. I'd gladly take a 2011 Mustang 5.0 over many of the cars listed. I'll have to side with Ramrod on this one. The sports car of yesteryear do look better and in some cases are better than many modern choices. One of my dreams cars is a 1970 Ford Gran Torino with a 4 speed and with a 429. Sometimes you just can't beat old school in terms of sheer presence.

He has no idea what a real sports car is. Anybody in the automotive industry considers something like a Trans Am or an S4 a sports car. TC has probably never driven either of them. Tell a buddy of mine who has a 580whp Firebird how awesome an E46 is and he'll laugh in your face. The popular response would be "oh yeah well..take that American junk into the corners!"....and guess what...it takes very little money to be able to put that American junk through the corners, very easily.

And you can tell TC isn't very knowledgeable about cars, because he listed the Supra and the RX-7/RX-8.

Supra's are only quick with gobs of money and even more hope that you don't blow the crap out of your turbos. And lets not forget the horrible fuel system in those cars. And the rotaries? Please. Go find some torque and get back to me.

As for the poll, of the cars listed the Corvette is the best platform.

The Nissan GT-R. Around $80,000, it is a bargain of a sports car for what it offers.

An E30 M3 is a sports car. I dont know what definition you have for sports cars, but I guess its not a good one. If you do not classify it as a sports car, then what the hell would you call it? It has 2 doors, a race turned motor, and it is used for road racing. Sounds like a sports car to me. Also, dont forget that the RX-8 has 3 doors, and a rear seat....

Let's not go around dissing anything none American. I have as much respect for a BMW as I do a no longer existent car. I have a friend who would laugh at your attempts to prove an RX-7 a mediocre car. Rotaries are not about torque, but power. Think about engine size to power ratio. Not much out there that comes even close. I can't say much about a Corvette due to them using LEAF springs up until the C6. One of my personal favorite sports car has to be the either the Galant VR-4, Ford Sierra Cosworth RS, or the Lancia Delta Integrale. Notice a trend?

If I could have anything, I'd take a Toyota Celica. Outta those, I'd have the Supra. RX-7 is a close second.
