I don't have anything particularly fancy. The sound-setup in my bedroom consists of an Onkyo TX-SR607, 2 Energy RC-50 Tower Speakers, Premier Acoustic PA-120 Subwoofer, Energy RC-Mini Center, and two Energy RC-Mini's for the rear. The sound system in my bedroom is simply one DacMagic and 2 KRK Rokit 8G2's.[QUOTE="Mcspanky37"]
[QUOTE="DivergeUnify"] Good enough points. What type of sound system do you have?AutoPilotOn
I've never personally tested 320kbps MP3 vs Lossless on either of my setups yet, so I can't comment. All I know is either format sounds great. And it's definitely not worth replacing 320kbps MP3s with FLAC, but if you ever need to re-rip or redownload your music, FLAC could be worth considering. :)
Holy crap thats not fancy? I am still debating on spending 300 on a total system speakers and all. Some of your speakers cost more than that alone. I'd hate to see the price tag on a fancy setup..... You'd be surprised. What I have is roughly mid-end, as some speakers and speaker components are really expensive. Hell, the cost of all my speakers combined can cost less than many high-end speaker cables. :P[QUOTE="LordAbyssion"]Also, Vinyl.horgen123Got one, but no equipment to play it with :( I wanna get one that allows me to get music from a vinyl over to my computer. you can connect any turntable to a computer, you just need a preamp which will connect to your line in on your sound card and you are good to go.
I like digital downloads for the convenience of being able to pay a few bucks for an album and being able to download it immediately but CDs will win out in the end purely because I prefer having hard copies anyway.
But...if more places like Bandcamp start popping up and I can buy digital music in FLAC (AKA lossless) format, then...I dunno. Convenience might win out in the end.
They both have their positives and disadvantages, but overall digital is the way to go unless you get a terrible digital copy for whatever reason.
Frankly, the human ear can't pick up the absolute best quality that music has to offer. There are reasons for owning both types of mediums, but for convenience and longevity, I prefer digital.
CDs because so few digital music stores offer lossless. The last online music store I bought from was digital-tunes.net because they offer lossless.. but most of the time I just order CDs and rip. All of my digital music is in FLAC or WavPack (the latter is for large/multi-disc releases.) This way I can transcode to whatever formats I need without the degradation associated with lossy->lossy.
