A lot of kids I see these days change themselves into emos, gangstas etc to fit in. Changing yourslef to be cool is dumb and shallow. Pretty much doing anything to be popular whether it be fashion or anything else. There have been kids at my school who pretend to be somebody they are not, its not cool or hip, its dumb.

Most Fashion Senses are stupid, and take out the middlemen/women who don't want to follow, be themselves, or are just poor, so yeah, I hate fads, though fads on the SSBB Boards can be entertaining if implemented well, but that's another story. :)

Kids at that age haven't really found their identity. It's normally that they change to fit in. Nobody wants to be an outsider. It is important that you know who you are later in your life.

I was always happy just being myself and socializing with anyone, I don't mind being alone, so if people didn't like me for certain reasons it never bothered me much:)

This might sound weird but there's this place I go, they're loads of people, all different kinds of things (goths, emos, chavs, skaters, gimps, punks etc.) and nobody judges anybody there. No matter how u look, any mental disabilities, how old or young u r, ur never judged. I luv that place but I'm grounded :(

I know so many people that have gone to emo, just because its now become a fashion. I like to be myself i will tell people, i play loads of games, but i also like to socialise, and just have a good time. Being me has made me popular and changing who you are to fit in, will make you look insecure.

Well, it's absolutely positive if you don't feel like you have to fit in. What I wanted to say is that I can understand how those kids act, I don't think it's a very bad thing to do.

So trying to "fit in" by changing who you really are is going to help you know who you are later in life!?

That's pretty easy. You can't betray your identity if you haven't found it. That's a part of growing up.

I get it now, but i dont agree. You find out who you are by just living life, the people around you and the things you do are what form you, you dont find out your identity by dressing up like a goth and trying to fit in.

You contradict yourself... The people around you do form you to some extent that is true. And if the people around you are goths, you may dress like one for a period of time. Later on you may find out that it's not the right thing for you, and you change. That's exactly what I initially said.

A lot of kids I see these days change themselves into emos, gangstas etc to fit in. Changing yourslef to be cool is dumb and shallow. Pretty much doing anything to be popular whether it be fashion or anything else. There have been kids at my school who pretend to be somebody they are not, its not cool or hip, its dumb.Film-Guy

[QUOTE="guthwulf_de"]Kids at that age haven't really found their identity. It's normally that they change to fit in. Nobody wants to be an outsider. It is important that you know who you are later in your life.double_decker

I was always happy just being myself and socializing with anyone, I don't mind being alone, so if people didn't like me for certain reasons it never bothered me much:)

See, the thing is that you probably weren't ALWAYS alone. I'll bet you already had friends, and hence didn't need to try to fit in.

Some people aren't that lucky.

[QUOTE="Film-Guy"]A lot of kids I see these days change themselves into emos, gangstas etc to fit in. Changing yourslef to be cool is dumb and shallow. Pretty much doing anything to be popular whether it be fashion or anything else. There have been kids at my school who pretend to be somebody they are not, its not cool or hip, its dumb.MrGeezer

Everyone changes in order to fit in. The people who don't try to fit in tend to be the people that the rest of us call "crazy".

Hmmm.... that sound a lot like me, ya know? youre only wrong on the "crazy" part.

I couldn't change myself to be popular if I put all my time and effort into it.

You think they're crazy just because they value their individuality and identity more than a false sense of acceptance?

No, you THINK that you're a nonconformist. But it's no coincidence that you seem relatively "normal".
