The new face of Charla Nash, the Connecticut woman who was mauled by a chimpanzee two years ago, was revealed for the first time today. The photos of Nash were first shown on NBC's "Today" show Thursday morning and were later released by Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, where the surgery was performed in late May. Nash is still recovering from the grueling 20-hour surgical marathon by a team of more than 30 doctors and nurses. An attempt to give her a pair of new hands failed, and the transplanted hands were removed. During a press conference in June, Nash's brother Steve choked up while thanking the donor's family. "Your incredible gift to Charla is generous and kind beyond words," he said. "Thank you for your precious gift and God bless you." Story here. Think she is looking well and wish her best wishes :)

I hope that monkey was incarcerated and didn't get off on some technicality.

Good luck to her.

Hope that this will make people realize what a bad idea keeping wild animals as pets is. For both us and them.

Nash, 57, was helping her friend Sandra Herold lure her pet chimp Travis inside when the 200-pound animal ripped off her nose, lips, eyelids and hands before being shot and killed by police. Article

:|

I would never, under any circumstances, go ANYWHERE near a chimp; those things were created by the devil himself. They can be just as pointlessly violent, sadistic and cruel as we humans are, except they are more than twice as strong and, unlike most of us, they don't show any restrain at all.

Actually there's lots of evidence that humans are capable of much more pointless violence than chimps. Unlike what people think chimps are not dangerous most of the time, they are quite a cooperative species. Of course if you take them out of their groups and contexts they can become specially violent like any other animal.

They brutally murder other chimps for no other reason than they were part of a rival gang of chimps...

Yeah humans do that too all the time much more frequently. Chimpanzee "wars" are not that common.

That's some really, really, impressive surgical work. I'm amazed at what modern medicine can do. It was a transplant face right? Wow.

Actually, they're very common, and there's usually a prolonged state of warfare with other groups of chimpanzees bordering the first group. Always bugs me when people spout on about "only humans are so (vile/evil/violent/etc.)". Yeah humans do that too all the time much more frequently. Chimpanzee "wars" are not that common.
