The now-infamous blow has been the topic du jour on every corner of the internet and television in the 48 hours since — but Rock has remained noticeably quiet.
That is, until Wednesday evening when Rock broke his silence and addressed the topic publicly at a standup show in Boston.
“Whoa, OK!” he exclaimed upon entering the stage at the Wilbur Theater in an all-white ensemble. Audience members in the 1,000-seat venue greeted the 57-year-old with a rock star’s welcome. Rock basked in the standing ovation, which thundered on for nearly two minutes, before he made another effort to get the ball rolling for the evening: “Yo, let me do the show!”
After a few additional moments of applause, Rock addressed the elephant in the room.
“How was your weekend?” he began with a knowing wink, drawing a wave of laughter. “I don’t have a bunch of shit about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that shit. And it will be serious and funny.”
An audience member then chanted “**** Will Smith!” but Rock ignored the comment and began his hour-long set.
“I’m going to tell some jokes,” he said. “It’s nice to just be out.”
@omegamaster: What really brought Rock into the spotlight (at least in the US, anyway) was his 1996 stand-up special Bring the Pain. To this day, it's considered one of the best stand-up performances of all time.
Is that the one with the gun control bit, saying they need to make bullets cost 500 dollars? I loved that.
*found it, it is. Man he was talking about Columbine right after it happened, good for him.
@mrbojangles25: that's bigger and blacker, the one after bring the pain. love bigger and blacker. one of my all time favourites. not as big a fan of bring the pain, but it has the famous (paraphrasing) "two kinds of black people in this world" skit
YESSSSS!!!! That is the best fucking skit ever!!!
Well, here's one from the "Cheers & Jeers" section of TV Guide (April 11-24, 2022):
JEERS to Will Smith for slapping the fun right out of the Oscars (and Chris Rock). Way to steal the spotlight from the night's other winners. We've seen better behavior on Maury.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop the clock, time out, flag on the play...
Last I checked, it's 2022--how the f*** is TV Guide still around in this day and age?! I haven't seen an issue at a supermarket in at least 15 years!

I don't know why but this made me laugh haha.
You're right though, haven't seen a TV guide in a long time. You'd think I notice since I come from the age of basic cable and you actually needed a TV guide to know what was on.
Wow I miss that ritual. Dad sitting down, getting out the TV guide, going through what's on TV lol...eventually you'd memorize certain schedules, like Nickelodeon's.
