[QUOTE="PannicAtack"]Yeeeeeah, I'm pretty sure nobody really thinks of "10 percent," just "give what you can give."cee1geei just feel its a bit corrupt because mostly all the pastors i ran into drive mercedes benz while im driving around in a 1994 cadillac, are they even giving it to the poor or are they funding their church?
Where the hell do you go to church? I've never seen a pastor driving a mercedes and if he is then the church isn't using its money very well, but I think of it as a "give what you can" kind of thing. I wouldn't give any money (or even go to a church) where the pastor is driving a mercedes (unless it is old)

PA-Some people actually do. I know my parents give a flat percentage, not sure if it's ten or not, but I think it's a ****ing waste. It's not like their money even goes to humanitarian efforts overseas or supporting soup kitchens, all that worthless cesspool of a church does with that money is pay all their worthless teachers who can't churn out an honor student to save their lives and pay for the endless number of improvements to the actual building. The day they actually help someone besides themselves is the day I start singing hallelujah.
CG-The Bible basically tells Christians to be poor, I don't find that too many of them take that section very literally. I agree with you, too, that even if everyday Christians can find a way to ignore such passages, and I don't actually care all that muchif they do or notanyways, pastors and other members of the church should at least be trying to follow them, and I very rarely see them doing that.

The pastor who used to preach at my grandparents' church actually married my cousin recently and he was driving a pretty sporty convertible, wearing some pretty expensive clothing, and from the sounds of it doing pretty well for himself. I think you can find plenty of pretty well of pastors and clergymen, hell just go to any archdiosce in a major city and the Cardinal or whatever probably has a pretty sweet standard of living. Not to say that there aren't poor pastors, but there are some pretty wealthy ones as well. Hell, I'd get a job as a pastor if it didn't mean spending four years in an overbearing seminary environment studying a book that has no meaning to me, I can stand in front of a crowd of people and spout well-meaning but empty rhetoric for half an hour a week.

One of my favorite skits. "He's all-perfect, all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-wise, but somehow just can't handle money!"

Oh you better not be mad if its a 94 El Dorado! Those things are the s***! One of my favorite cars! 92 is the best imo :P
Its give what you can, not 10 percent. I don't even remember reading that. Then again I don't remember reading it at all sadly. I give when I can and feel damn happy doing so.
The only real defense of the necessity for modern day tithing (or giving of ten percent of your income) goes somethign like this as far as know.
a) Abraham paid tithes Mechilzedek (a priest of God whose lineage Paul declares Jesus apart of)
b) This was obviously done before the giving of the law to moses much later.
c) therefore tithing precedes and supercedes the OT Law and is a timeless principle.
d) We should therefore Tithe.
Make of that what you will. Certainly tithing is not mentioned in the New Testament as a requirement.
Ahh, I'd say give what you can/ what you're willing.
As long as you donate something every now and then (money, time, stuff they might need, etc.), I think you should be fine. :)
I am asking you Christians a question because my girlfriend says i have to give 10 percent of my income to the churches weekly cause the bible says so

This is a free country. You donate to Church as much as you want. Starting from 0 ending at 100% of your pay. It's your choice.
