Poll Clinton or Trump, who gets your vote in the general election? (170 votes)

Hillary Clinton 31%
Donald Trump 29%
I will not vote for either of these horrible candidates 25%
I am still undecided, maybe the choice of their running mates will lean me one way 4%
I can't vote in this election because I'm too young or I am not American 11%

After last night's 5 state elections, it's pretty clear it will be Trump vs Clinton in the general election. Even if there is a Republican convention they cannot deny Trump who is way ahead in delegates. Sanders isn't going to win 80% or so of the remaining votes, so he's out too.

Though I'm not enamored with her personally, I think Hillary will make the better president of the 2, I think she will improve universal healthcare, be very progressive on climate change issues, raise the minimum wage to a reasonable amount, and be the stronger candidate with foreign policy. I do believe both candidates can reach across the aisle.

There are things I like about Trump, particularly his hardened immigration stance, his commitment to veterans and a strong military, and his questioning of NATO and Israel. But I would need to see a lot more substance behind these things, and the Republican debates showed he doesn't have much.

So Hillary it is for me.

.. The US drone campaign already does this with massive non target causalities as shown with that leaked report stating that nearly 90% of the causalities were all non targets.. And your incredibly ignorant to think the US hasn't been torturing people for decades now through the CIA, especially during the Cold War.. If this are what demonize Trump, you should find basically the entire political establishment repugnant when they have supported these kinds of policies for decades.. In less your perfectly fine for such things, you just don't like when a person is so open about it. Or you like the fact we give other unsavory groups the power to enact our policy, like the US government has done for decades.. What the **** you think the supposed "rebels" in Syria were doing when the US was arming, because they sure as shit aren't upholding rules of engagement and human rights laws..

I wouldn't worry too much about that, since most troops and agents ordered to kill innocent bystanders or torture detainees would just disobey the order and would have legal justification to do so based on rules of engagement POTUS doesn't have the authority to change.

.. You seriously think a drone operator is going to be given such details for their target to be forced to make such a decision to begin with? And you seriously think the CIA agent would refuse a order for torture? Forgetting the fact that if they whistle blew they would most likely be deemed a traitor.. Abu Ghraib is a prime example of this, where the brass wanted to pin the guy who leaked the photos with treason, and not the actual perpetrators of the torture..

I don't like it when it's done in secret OR when it's done openly. Obviously, as such, I will not be voting for an individual who openly advocates for such policies.

I'm not sure why you seem to be angry, as I don't believe you're objecting to my "I won't vote for Trump" stance or to my declaration that these policies are repugnant.

@sSubZerOo: The president doesn't directory command troops, those orders travel down a chain of command. Someone in the chain of command between Trump (assuming that he gave such illegal orders) and the person on the ground ordered to execute the order would raise the red flag, and a soldier on the ground isn't going to obey an order to shoot a bunch of unarmed kids knowing that it is a trip straight to Leavenworth like Robert Bales.

Drone strikes are a different story, collateral damage isn't the same as intentionally targeting innocent women and children. Before you say it, I know that a crying parent won't care that her son was "collateral damage," she cares that her son is dead. Also, the drone operators have eyes on the target, so it isn't like some commander is going to order a guy to shoot a bunch of kids and the pilot that is firing is going to comply without question.

I can't speak on what the CIA will do, they are a totally different animal.

Because if this is the reason why you won't vote for Trump.. That this is the reason why you should basically not vote for really any of the major politicians running for office because they are all guilty of supporting these kind of policies.

That's really misleading since your "non-targets" are not necessarily non-combatants. The same leaked report claims that 80% of casualties were classified as militants and only 6% were civilian casualties. Despite the name, precision munitions are not precise weapons designed to kill their intended target and nothing else; they explode taking an entire building and everyone in it along with the target. What you left out or ignorant of is the fact that civilian populations have always suffered in conflicts but weapons technology have gone a long way to reduce collateral damages.

And then there's the nature of an isometric warfare to consider. Terrorists organizations operate among civilians and in fact purposely utilize them as human shields. It was for the same reason that firebombing of Japan was so necessary albeit horrible. Unlike concentrated industry centers of Germany, Japan war time economy is very much decentralized and distributed among the civilian population. For this reason and because LOAC is drafted with reality of warfare in mind, it doesn't strictly forbid killing of non-combatant but simply the targeting of, which no US air strike does.

There's a distinct difference between current administration's GWOT doctrine and what Trump is advocating. That's like saying you brought a kid a burger you must want give him a heart attack.

I think Clinton has demonstrated that she's incompetent at best as Secretary of State, but Trump is so bad that it's easily Clinton for me. I've not been old enough to vote in another election where the choice was this easy.

@sSubZerOo: It is one of many reasons, cited in this particular instance because it is the one most likely to be universally agreed upon as disgusting, vile, and immoral.

Regardless, we are in a system in which (after the primaries) we vote not for a perfect candidate but the best (or least worst depending on one's viewpoint - same thing, different connotation) from a set of viable options.

As we approach the point where the set of viable options is limited to Clinton and Trump (barring some unlikely third party run that has a chance at majority support) Clinton looks like the best of the viable options and Trump the worst - for a myriad of reasons, but even if we're just restricting the discussion to those cited earlier.

If I lived in the US I would definitely voted for Hilary. She isn't the perfect presidential candidate, but after the way trump acted throughout the primaries, his lack of qualifications to be president in my opinion and shady past I would rather go for Hilary despite her flaws. Trump is way worse than even Bernie Sanders.

It seems from some of the comments here that allot of folks really believe that the president is the "end all be all" decision maker for the country. This isn't true. They are just a face, a representation, a talking head, and a bill signer. A Democratic president will favor their parties agenda, signing bills and passing legislation in favor of liberal policies, socialist ideals, and increasing the federal deficit by using our taxes to grow bigger government which ultimately doesn't produce anything (other than taking away your rights and freedoms). Republicans do the same for theirs and have become a ridiculous party with religious right stereotypes and not much appeal to younger citizens.. I don't really identify myself as one or the other, in fact they both have way too much power over our country and you're left with no choice but to choose one..

Is it possible to vote for neither? I would like a legitimate 3rd candidate. Trump vs. clinton is like Stalin vs. Hitler. Terrible choices. We're doomed.

So a lot of people don't understand why Trump is considered racist. It's not because he wants to deport illegals but because he called most Mexicans rapist and murders. That and his latest picture of him eating a taco salad saying he loves Mexicans.

I'm voting Hillary. Not too happy about it, but what can you do? Voting third party just helps Trump. Hopefully, this election has helped bring to light the problems in the election process. I'm also really excited to see the type of people who will run in 2020. Non establishment people who have observed Bernie and Trump. People who will have four years to analyze both the things they did wrong and right.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic about the future.

Our country's far right whackadoodles willing to eagerly vote for Trump, they've been in a downward progression for years since abandoning neoconservative philosophy after the Bush reign of terror brought shame on the party, and adopted the libertarian insurgency wanting to elect government to destroy government along with blatant unabashed racism and xenophobia and a dangerously seditious and militant 2nd Amendment movement. Throw in a party that now champion idiots like Sarah Palin, Joe the Plumber, that Duck Dynasty guy, Cliven Bundy, Kim Davis; what kind of future do our conservative youth look forward to with inspirational personalities like that? Question I'm asking myself, if not Trump, who or what is next that's bound to be worse is gonna pop out its ugly head.

@comp_atkins: obviously the news about her computer servers and her unwillingness to talk about what happened with Bill.

Maybe she should answer because how she handles real problems might help people understand what it's gonna be like when she's president?

Also, what she said about Benghazi.... Regardless of who's fault it is

"What difference does it make?"

Like everything good she's done in the past has been taken away by lies and deception.

@comp_atkins: obviously the news about her computer servers and her unwillingness to talk about what happened with Bill.

what happened to Bill?

How he cheated on her and her unwillgness to talk about it.

If you want to hide something as silly as that then maybe you shouldn't be the president? She's all about keeping secrets.

Did you see Bill Clinton's explanation on the emails, and his part in it? It;s just shamelessly full of it. He said he has used email twice, and that was to buy christmas presents. I was just like dude, that;s the best explanation you can come up with?! Jesus....

I haven't seen the details but I've heard some pieces and everytime I do here something it makes me more ashamed.

Really?!?! Christmas presents? rofl.

Yeah, he goes "I dont mess with email, because I hear people say bad things about you in email." WHAT?!?!?!?!?

I'll reluctantly vote for Hillary. I don't like her. I'm not proud of it, but I won't just let Trump have the keys to the executive office and the nuclear codes.

Trump is what happens when people get tired of the minority left wing social justice nuts.
