My response as well.Manga was around long before anime... and that snow queen doesn't look like anime to me.

If you really want to pick an "inventor" of anime, credit Disney. There was no greater influence on the early stages of modern anime than Disney films and shorts.
First of all Tezuka is known as the God of manga not anime and although the animated adaptation of his works are very popular, the comic book form is where his bread is buttered historically speaking. Secondly although he does get credited with the familiar anime style of employing cute exaggerated features, these were created out of the influence of American animated features which he was very open about affecting his sensibilities in a big way. Lastly Tezuka's most well known creation Astro Boy was published starting in 1952 which is well before the Russian film which you reference as originating the style.
Whoa, the animation is so smooth in those clips. :oHexagon_777If you look at full length animated movies with large budgets they usually do have much better animation quality than anything you see on TV. This is especially true for older animated movies/shorts when animation was insanely popular thanks to the fact that it was (with a few exceptions) the only color movies around. Look at old Disney movies as well as shorts like Looney Tunes. The animation quality is through the roof. Meanwhile TV cartoons have much lower budgets and since animation is really expensive to produce studios will try to cheap out on it as much as possible. Anime in particular is notorious for doing that, although over the past 10 years Western animation has become even worse thanks to the new trend of "animating" in flash.
I, too, love me some good ol' McCarthyism for breakfast.
Only commie bastards could create that depraved "art".

True, but...this stuff is from the 1950s! It looks so good and smooth that I am reminded of some anime movies that made it into cinemas.
first of all i am not crazy its really the truth
the first cartoon with animelike character proportions was the russian film the snow queen. Of course its not for every character just for the children main characters but if anything in the past looked like animes like in these days then it was this.
All what japanese had at the time was this and that which came all later since the snow queen came in 1957. The only animated japanese cartoon who came before was Momotaro which only had animals and its black and white. Very sad Osamu Tezuka gets all the fame even if mother russia scored first.HFkami
Sure. And Eskimo's invented the taco.
