Just woke up to find this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/

feel really sad now, was a nice guy and a scottish guy so us brits always wanted him to win the WRC and such heh. Ironic how such a dangerous sport involving so many near-death crashes he manages to survive, yet dies in a helicopter accident. Reckon this will be the end of Colin McRae games?

Oh man that totally sucks. I love WRC style racing and it's a shame to see a great driver die in such a mundane way not even doing what he loved. Still he was great at what he did.

That being because of a topic about the death, where people made jokes and poked fun at it. JPL had good reason to do that.

Yeah, I found that out ealier today. I mean, after playing so much Dirt and really respecting the sport for how dangerous it is and how skilled you need to be at it, I was really respecting guys like Colin. Seems a bloody shame for him to die in a helicopter and not in a car, doing what he loved. :(

He still not acutally confirmed to be dead, but it seems likely, if it wasnt him he would have probabvly made a statement to show he was alive.

I only bought DiRT yesterday, and now the Rally legend is dead. Unbeleivable. It sickens me when guys like McRae and Irwin die, but idiots survive. Such a shame. And he was with his young son. Absolutely shocking news.

Mcrae was a true motorsprt legend who seemed to take part for the fun andchallenge of rallying rather than the money who was passionate for his sport and country. He was a hero for me when i was younger and couldn't believe it when i heard the news last night.

Colin and others involved R.I.P.

Very sad for the lost to his family and also to the sport. Its was only 2 years ago that another former British Rally Champion Richard Burn's also died young. 2 great drivers that died before their time.

Much like how Irwin is now wrestling 50 story tall crocodiles, Colin McRae is racing on that rally course from hell itself to pure delight.

Go get em.

Most people here on GS only know him because the racing games associated with his name. Do a search using his name here on GS and it should bring up several rallying games.

It seems clear on here that the majority of US users obviously don't know who Colin McRae was (and judging by comments from one person, don't care).

Could I at least ask that they just refrain from posting if they have nothing good to say?

He was very highly respected here in Britain and a household name in British motorsport, so a lot of people are going to be upset about his death. Add to that his 5 year old son was onboard and possibly another young child and it's really a tradgedy.

So, please, refrain from the senseless and brainless comments and sick jokes. No-one's laughing...

RIP Colin.

I didn't say you were insulting him. I was simply making comment that it's both insensitive as well as completey pointless to post "then i dont care..." in regards to someone's death just because you've never heard of them.

Dont post then. Believe it or not, saying nothing is actually an option.

I'm perfectly calm. If you honestly cant just take simple advice and admit your comment was pointless and insensitive, i'll leave it there.

It's one of the main problems with OT:

"Do i post something good or do i post something bad?"

NAY! Dont post anything at all! That is an option.
