Mines just came in the mail. I got a check from what was left over after my tuition was paid and deposited in my account. What do you guys/gals do or did with any extra left over financial aid you've gotten?

I'm plan to put it in my savings for when I may need it.

I was so excited when my letters came in. Unfortunately when I opened up the letter for financial aid all I saw was essentially a big middle finger. :(

I'd just spend some to pay for textbooks or put some of it on my campus card for food.

Remember books will cost you about $300-$600 per semester. No need putting it in your savings. Your gonna need it really quickly. Bills, food etc. It adds up quick.

The most I got was $17k and this was from the state school. The average was between $9k and $14k and this was for schools with tuitions going up to $40k to $50k alone.

Not really. The rich friends I had, who's parents made above $100k annually, received almost no aid. Actually I don't think they received any at all.

You know I never even open half my books I buy. Just that the professors during the 1st day of class scares you and makes it seem like your going to have to read the text book if you want a good grade. I end up never reading any of my text book. And I get an A- most of the time. It would save me alot of money to just wait and see and buy only the books I really really need.

Might as well. I would. A laptop is very important. Don't get a netbook. Those are garbage. Your not gonna be able to use it for anything else. A netbook is like $300-$500 right? a few hundred more would get you a real laptop. If your into mac they're giving out free ipod ttouch with any purchase of a macbook/macbook pro and 10% off (student discount)

Kept it. I ended up going to another school and got $14k in aid from them with $6k in grants from there as well. Living at home saved me another $13k so I only had to come up with $12k.

If there's anyone reading this who is nearing the college app. process, don't pass up a $500 or $1k schollarship. You don't have any idea how much just $500 can help you, especially when you don't have to pay it back.

They keep bumping up tuition and lowering education in California. It's really annoying.

Yea, my school along other cal states are dealing with a huge cut back in the amount of classes they offer and have even limit the amount of units student can take each semester. I was suppose to graduate this academic year, but with the unit cap, it extends my stay at school for another year, so in two years i will graduate =/

Damn, I wish I had that luxury. I'm going to be going to Texas Tech and I think it's ~$13k for this first freshman year, but I only got scholarships to cover ~$6k so I guess I'll have to get student loans to cover the other $7k.

I haven't had to take out a loan. Cal Grants and other scholarships themselves cover the cost for my schools tuition. I one of the lucky ones i suppose
