Does anyone have anyidea what kinds of software is used after all the panels have been drawn as I doubt each page is done as a whole, and the speach bubbles on mainsream work is obviously added on afterwards.

I think at the moment, they use anything they want (Paint.net, GIMP, Photoshop, etc.) but they just have ready-made templates to draw over.

My dad is an artist and he has worked for MAD Magazine and Playboy, they send him the panels empty with the words already filled in by whoever is doing the story and then he takes what is being expressed in the panels and draws accordingly. He will free draw them at first, scan the images into Adobe Illustrator to polish them up and then transfer those into Photoshop to add color.

GIMP and Paint.net are completely free and do the job just fine.

Also look at imaginefx.com. It is a monthly British hard-copy magazine, but they also have a lot of software. Aside from that, learn Photoshop.

Manga Studio is quite good for making comics and it isn't really just manga. It is quite difficult to get used to however because of the way you colour the images and other things like that.

But it doesn't allow for speech bubbles n stuff like that, I wan't something simpilar... And i'll look into Manga Studio as I plan to colour everything by hand before scanning...
