- Computer help! - USB ports not working

Something really weird is going on with my computer. Apparently, the USB ports aren't working. None of them!When I got to manage devices, It says there is a problem with the USB controller. I tried unistalling it and then reinstalling it, but it couldn't reinstall because the "device is not intended for this platform".

Now, since none of them work, you'd think it was just whatever I'm trying to plug in. Well, i've tried 5 different things. 1 of those things was a mouse, and when I plugged it in, the mouse turned on, which means the port isn't completely broken. The computer just can't cummincate with these things, including the printer that I really need. Also, I've tried all these things in another computer and they work perfectly, while they don't even make the fun sound when I put them in my main computer.

Now, here's the weirdest thing of all. Somehow, a Lexar Jump Drive is able to communicate and work perfectly any time I plug it in to any one of the USB ports. One thing that might have something to do with it is that the Lexar Jump Drive is slightly newer than anything else i tried, though some stuff that didn't work was only a little bit older.

Anyone have any ideas? I have a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

but the digital camera didn't work either, so i think it may be the port.

But what about the digital camera? The computer couldn't communicate with that either.

I was looking around, Iand I think it already has one. I have a "microsoft windows XP media Center Edition 2005" hp computer. I opened this thing and there is another USB 2.0 port. I plugged it in there and it didn't work, though it didn't look like the plug went all the way into the port.

tell us the HP model and well find out if it has a pci port and then you can go to the computer store and pick it up for $20

No. I haven't done anything with it. I install automatic updates for my computer, but i doubt any of them would hurt the ports.

Is that a correct translation? Well, I don't know when it started not working because I haven't used it for months, and I hadn't plugged anything in there at all.

Try inserting the cable in and out of the port a few times over the course of a few hours while standing in different positions. :)billnye69

I've tried that already, but my parents (who were in the room with me)said that it wasn't safe and that I should stop.

Check the website for either the computer, or motherboard manufacturer, and see if there are any special drivers that need to be loaded for the USB controller.

It had worked before though. I used my printer all the time, and now it can't commincate with the computer.
