Computer science is overly complex, full of bickering people, programming languages suck and so does computer science. No one can write a good book about any programming language and math is torturous and boring and nothing but memorizing lists of information and learning about anything to do with math, computer science, and programming languages sucks up massive amounts of time and leads absolutely nowhere.

I'm going to assume you just got, or are currently getting your ass kicked in a computer science class.

while (true) {

System.out.println("U mad?");

}

I was going to do that in C++, but stupid HTML got all uptight and wouldn't let me.

I found computer science to be incredibly easy, they work you into it, we only did a few languages, simple stuff then like Q-Basic, Visual Basic 3 I think, POV Ray... I really didn't think it was too difficult, what kind of assignments did they give you that you felt were too hard?

Although CS can be annoying at times (like troubleshooting), it the end it's pretty 'simple'. You just have to plan out things. It can take a while before you are used to thinking in a programming way.

Programming isn't about the languages at all. It's about the logical flow of things. If your good at that, then a company couldn't care less if you know the language you use or not, because thats not whats important. You can learn that fast as long as you know how to code. so.. obviously, you can't do logical flow well. I LOVE programming, it's so relaxing.. it's creative, and it has infinite possibilities.

Simple huh?

How about you write me some sockets in C and encode them with a special algorithm and send a string of 1 million numbers between 3 servers, encyrpted, and decrypt them, and then seive out all of the primes.

Good god... the horror... THE HORROR!!!

Exactly, if you have the mind for it programming can be one of the most creative fields out there. You can pretty much do anything, you just need to think of a way to make it. I couldn't live without programming.

MIPS assembly. I actually enjoyed it. Crazy huh?

And don't believe him, it's not an "easy" language. Infact, it's the reason we have high level languages!

Hey, any of you guys want to help me with my Java code? It simply involves a nested loop which generates a tessellation in DrawingPanel, but it's drawing incorrectly and I can't figure out why. It's due tonight :(

Programming isnt for everyone, it takes a specific mindset/way of thinking and even if you do have it, a lot of people still think programming is incredibly boring. Its frankly quite sad :/

This is entirely false. Have you even coded before? Assembly will cause you to pull your own hair out.

As for Computer Science being terrible. It depends. It's taught terribly, but in practice it's a ton of fun, like a big brain teaser. They teach you syntax instead of logic, when honestly syntax is a google search away, but the actual logic can take you days/weeks to figure out. I find programming rather easy, it's the actual problem solving thats difficult. It's also impractical. In college you're writing complete programs alone, while in the real world that would rarely happen. You would most likely be working on certain aspects of functionality.

That's very true, in the real world programs are often pretty darn big and you'll be working with a team. So you're usually working on a specific part of the project and not the whole thing.

 I need to make this in DrawingPanel in Java using loops. I have a nested loop set up (both 'for loops', set to run from 0 to 8 using a +1 step, with the row tied to the first loop's count and the columns tied to the second). And then I have four 'if' and 'else if' conditions set up, to determine if the element is odd/even (to decide whether to create a 40x20 or 20x40 rectangle) or in an odd/even row (for the same purpose). But my program is missing rectangles in my drawing. Sometimes programming sucks. :P

He does have a point though. For how difficult it is you don't really get paid that well. You end up making about the same as someone with a 2 year networking degree.

How about advancement?

I'll bet anything that a 4 year degree has a much better outlook than any 2 year tech degree.

Besides, average around here for a recently graduated tech school person is about 40k, i'm quite a bit above that with some serious room for advancement.

Tech school degrees are really crap in the long run.

From a reputable source, what are the average starting and mid-career salaries for someone with a bachelor's degree in computer science and someone with a 2-year networking degree? I am rather skeptical of that claim.

Even is if(row % 2 == 0) Odd is if(row % != 0)

I already have that. My code is near finished except for missing rectangles (which must mean some of my rows and columns aren't accounted for by my 'if' statements). It's so messy and complicated I feel like I missed something. :P

Besides, average around here for a recently graduated tech school person is about 40k, i'm quite a bit above that with some serious room for advancement.

Tech school degrees are really crap in the long run.

Depends on what you do with it. A properly certified network tech will start out making 50,000+ a year and has a very high ceiling for growth. It all comes down to the individual skill. As long as you have those Cisco certifications you're in the door. But those tests are a real pain. However, you can't even get an interview with most software development firms without a 4 year degree no matter your expertise.

[QUOTE="magicalclick"][QUOTE="KHAndAnime"] I need to make this in DrawingPanel in Java using loops. :PKHAndAnime

Even is if(row % 2 == 0) Odd is if(row % != 0)

I already have that. My code is near finished except for missing rectangles (which must mean some of my rows and columns aren't accounted for by my 'if' statements). It's so messy and complicated I feel like I missed something. :P

From your description of your algorithm, I feel like you're making this way harder than it needs to be.
